It was a strangely sunny day for leaf-bare, especially after the horrific night before. The rays shone down through the palm leaves onto Inkblaze and his best friend, Wanderstep. However, just because it was sunny, didn't it was warm. The dark tom was huddled around his mate, his bristly tail over her fluffy one. They had escaped from the camp together only hours earlier and spent the night here in the palm forest, far from the sounds of tumbling stones and ear-splitting thunder.

A cold drop of water dripped onto the tom's head from one of the palms above, residual from last night. Inkblaze slowly blinked his eyes open and yawned, lifting his head from his large paws. He glanced around and saw in the distance that several others of their Clanmates had made there way here too. The palm leaves did provide good shelter from the storm after all.

He slowly stood up and shook out his thick, damp fur, stretching soon afterwards. As he sat down and began to lick his paw and groom his face, he noticed Wanderstep stirring nearby. He perked his ears and gazed down at her, wondering fervently if she was alright from last night's disaster. I hope she isn't too traumatized.. He pondered. Inkblaze thought about the tumbling rocks, the shaking of the ground beneath their paws, the sound of cats crying out for help.. he shook his head. It was all in the past. He would worry about all those things later.. for now, he and his closest friend were safe. Maybe I should have looked for and carried Mistpaw instead.. He then flattened his ears. Something deep in his gut had told him to save Wanderstep at all costs.

"Are you alright?" Came the concerned mew of his dark-furred mate. Inkblaze's fur pricked up around his neck in surprise, quickly looking over his shoulder at her. He nodded and slowly turned himself to face her and replied "Yes.. just thinking about last night." He forced his ears to return back to their normal position and he asked, "How are you feeling..? Are you okay?" He felt a bit strange, asking these questions. It wasn't in his nature to be outwardly caring, but.. he managed. "You seemed to have trouble sleeping last night." He mewed. It was true. Something seemed to be on her mind, but was it the disaster or.. something else?

Wanderstep looked up at that question and then looked back down at her white paws, her ears angling slightly backwards. The dark tom raised an eyebrow, her gesture only making him more curious. "Is something wrong? Is it.. what happened? The disaster?" He meowed bluntly. He spotted a light pink blush creep onto her cheeks and his heart beat faster - what could this mean? Was something wrong between them? "N-No, nothing's wrong, per se.. and I didn't have trouble sleeping because of that." She mewed cryptically. "Then what?" Inkblaze pressed, his fur pricking up again.

Wanderstep's ears seemed to twitch with anxiety and this made the tom even more nervous as to what was going on. "L-Look.. there's something I need to t-tell you." She said faintly, almost a whisper. Inkblaze couldn't stop his tail from fluffing up at that. "Tell me." He replied quickly. He needed to know. Was there another tom? Did someone not approve of their relationship? If that was the case, Inkblaze would tear them to shreds himself. He flattened his ears against his head.

However, her reply was the one he least expected. "I'm.. pregnant, Inkblaze.." She mewed quietly, her eyes closed tightly, a brighter blush forming on her cheeks. At that, he went completely quiet. The world around him seemed to stop moving.

"You're what." He simply mewed, the news not quite sinking in yet. She looked up at him anxiously, seeming to wonder if he was angry. "I-I'm.. pregnant..!" She repeated. "...." He stayed quiet, simply staring down at her. "You know.. expecting kits?" She tilted her head at him, wondering why he was so silent. She had expected him to at least react to news like this!

As he gazed down at her, she seemed to be getting more and more confused as to what was going on inside his head. "Well go on.. say something." She suggested, perking her ears up. Moments later, Inkblaze simply stepped forward and placed his head on hers, staying silent. He stared ahead quietly. The she-cat sighed softly in relief, closing her eyes and smiling, the blush on her cheeks growing.

"I-I'm.. proud of you." He mewed finally, trying to say something he thought would be appropriate. Honestly.. he had no idea what to do. Wanderstep's smile grew and she asked softly, "A-Are you.. okay?" She repeated his question from earlier. The dark tom hesitated and then replied "Sure.. I'm terrified." Wanderstep's happy giggle at this reassured him and he smiled softly, but inwardly he was thinking, Oh, boy... here we go.
