Okay let me get this of my chest. there needs to be MORE art on this site featuring people of darker skin tones. Im tired of seeing art featuring anime characters, models,photography, stories, sketches etc..etc featuring people of fair skin, white skin. Am i being racist? no I just would like to see some diversity in art. When i am speaking of dark skin, i am not only speaking up for people of Africa/African descent . I speaking for all brown skinned people ... like India,Cambodian,Thai, Dominican republic,Hawaiians and so on. Please bring more art of people with color to the table because dark skin is just as beautiful.Related content

Whenever I think of dark skinned people the image that I mostly think of are Melanesians, Sub-Saharan Africans, Indigenous Australians, Negritoes, Andaman Islanders, Native Americans, Polynesians, Micronesians, and Arabic people. All of these people have dark skin ranging from dark chocolate to a sandy gold complexion.

I certainly agree and would encourage more artist to include more ethnic art pieces in their galleries! I appreciate all cultures and skin tones but for some reason I am not seeing a whole lot of representation on this site. YOU are expressing something that has definitely been on my mind as I search through various galleries especially when it comes to "fantasy" type of art which I love.

Thank you for your wonderful post I agree whole heartily with you and i to adore fantasy and you hardly ever see darker skin characters being depicted in fantasy work is sad and hope some day we will have people to adventure out of the box and create more art of color

I think dark-skin is beautiful, especially those that are actually from Africa and other parts of the world where dark-skin is common, I think it's looks exotic.

When I was little I was insanely jealous of one of my friends because of how beautiful she was. I wished that I was african american like her, I even got a whole bunch of barrets and put them in my hair to try to be like her. Dark skin is beautiful, even if most people don't have characters with dark skin or do art of people who have darker skin I'm proud to have some cultural diversity in my gallery. I know that I have more caucasian characters than people of color but I'm going to try to even out the distribution.

I don't usually get so candid publicly, but I would simply have to agree entirely (as a white guy, no less). In fact, I recently did a fantasy painting featuring an Indian woman--'Goddess of Sand '--which got a lot of attention (a lot in respect to a fairly unknown artist) from people at the NYCC.
Considering that, I've begun brainstorming ideas for a graphic novel for her. I honestly do think there need to be more female protagonists and dark skinned women at that (never mind I just find dark skin attractive). So, here's to hoping I have some mild success with it!

don't forget the Philippines...
sadly a LOT of women here(even some men!) purchase whitening products all the time...I can't go through a single day of NOT seeing a TV commercial of skin whitening products, be it facial cleansers or creams. If I had a choice, I would've been born a darker skin color.
Some people here look unnaturally white...which scares me the most.

Amen to that!!! That's why I've started lots of characters who are darkskinned and taken to learning how to color dark-skinned and whatnot....we should have more dark skinned characters. I mean when we do have one a lot of times there is a reason ie, from Egypt or something but not just characters who are dark who just happen to be dark. I agree!! Love the stamp!!

Awww Im African American, and yes I do understand by what you mean about dark skin. You`re not just referring to blacks you mean any other race with dark lovely skin tones and NO YOUR NOT BEING RACIST. Yes! Finally someone who knows my mind! There really do needs to be more works of dark skin people as in every race thats dark skinned and not only black. Your not being racist, your just speaking up for girls like me

even though I think of race in the very back of my mind, I agree with you. My characters are mostly of the darker races, African decent, Yemeni... to name a few, and it would be nice to see more characters like them.

I love this stamp. So many days have I tried to find photos and art that don't deal with the "European standards of beauty" and I'm unable to find very many.
I agree that there needs to be more promotion when it comes to our skin colour because we're the Original people. All of the other colours come from us. Genetics show us that you cannot get a dominant from a recessive.
I hope that on DA, more of us will be brought out into the light and appreciated also.

As a dark-skinned Dominican girl who doesn't look black/hispanic...really, much like ANYTHING, I always LOVED seeing girls of color of ALL nationalities in pictures-I think we need to work to glorify all of us, not just the black/hispanic ones, and we ESPECIALLY need more of a voice in art.
