Description He was only two years old, but he knew pain. Not the word perhaps, but the feel of it. Every day they would come and take away all of the dragonesses, and his mom. They never took him from the room, they always left him. But they would hurt him while his mother was gone. Without her there, he was vulnerable. He didn’t know to run or bite. He just knew it hurt.
He knew the scent of blood as well, and that it told of pain. His mother came back a lot with it dripping from her back. A lot of the dragonesses did. But when his mother saw him bleeding too, she would get angry. He knew it was an unpleasant thing, but it made her more protective over him. She would growl and cover him in gentle licks to clean the wounds. He always felt safe when she was around. He knew that, and he knew pain came when she wasn’t around.

One day though, that all changed. To him it was a special day. They didn’t take his mother that morning. He got to stay with her all day and he liked that. But she seemed nervous. She kept licking him even though he was clean. He only looked at her confused, and she would only nuzzle him and talk a little. Some of the words he knew, his special word was his favorite one. It was the one she always said when she looked at him. He knew it was his word and his alone. She said it a lot that day.
As the day carried on, she seemed to get more nervous. He still didn’t understand. But the other dragonesses kept looking at them with strange looks that he didn’t understand. Like they were hurt, but he didn’t see any blood on them, how could they hurt then?

Finally, the large door opened, making them all jump. He whined and hid behind his mother’s legs as she got to her paws, growling.
There were four of them. And they walked right over to him and his mother. He stared up at them with wide eyes. He didn’t like their looks.
His mother growled again and snarled, lashing her tail. He moved farther under her, away from them.
One of them pulled out a thick club that reminded him of his mother’s horns. It was sharp too. They talked at his mother, but he didn’t understand. He knew she didn’t like it though. She growled and suddenly her tail was in one of them. He watched with fear as blood spilt everywhere and it fell to the ground, not moving again.
Another one shrieked something and moved fast at his mother, bringing its club against her head. He squeaked in terror as his mother screeched. She was hurt now too, he could see the blood. She tried to attack it, but it was faster, moving and beating her again, this time twice.
He whimpered as she swayed and tried to attack again, but it only brought the club to her head again, this time with a crack.
She was hurt, but he didn’t understand why she kept attacking, wasn’t that bad?
He didn’t know how many times she was struck with the club, but it was a lot. The creature finally hit her again, this time she fell.
He didn’t know what to do. He was suddenly exposed with his mother’s body on the ground. He whined and quickly struggled to hide under her wing, but he was grabbed by the neck by them.
He squeaked in terror and fear as they began to walk away, blocking him from his mother. He wanted to bite, but he knew he wasn’t supposed to.
He didn’t know why they were taking him from his mother. All he knew was she was hurt, and without her protection, he would be too.
He whimpered and whined feebly as he was carried out, trying to keep his mother in sight as long as he could before the door was slammed shut, leaving his mother with only his whimpering cries echoing in her ears with the simple knowledge that she would never see him again.
***

So, this picture came about for a few reasons. One, I was bored in English,
two, I realized I haven't drawn Okapi in forever,
three, I felt like drawing Okapi and her son Callen,
four, I'm in a bad mood, so they suffer.

This is an acutal part of their story though It's not as random as it may seem.

I loooooove Okapi's pose Just going to say that here and now
Tried a new shading technique with this, case you couldn't tell.
Yes, lame background, but I really have no idea how to do a dungeon Something I gotta work on.

and... yup, that's it,

Enjoy

A young human is leaning on the outer wall as they leave. Two sabers hang at his belt, along with a variety of daggers and two nasty-looking handguns.
????: Going somewhere?

GypsySkye In reply to Adurnak [2010-10-12 23:19:00 +0000 UTC]

The creatures tense a bit, one stepping forward, his eyes narrowed. Who are you and what do you want?

Adurnak In reply to GypsySkye [2010-10-12 23:24:37 +0000 UTC]

The teenage boy draws one of the guns, levling it at the creatures head.
????: Hand over hatchling. Now.

GypsySkye In reply to Adurnak [2010-10-13 02:05:52 +0000 UTC]

The creature gives an irritated growl, the lower half of his body shrouding into a black mist and giving him more height and blocking the other two from veiw.

Adurnak In reply to GypsySkye [2010-10-13 14:38:01 +0000 UTC]

????: Not impressed.
A flash of light erupts from the teenager, and when the light fades, a massive silver dragon has replaced him, towering over the creatures.

A second creature steps up growling as it assumes the same shape, shifting to corner the stranger as the third creature slips past them, still gripping the hatchling.

With a thunderous crack, bot the htchling and the silver dragon vanish, reappearing inside the holding room. With the hatchling out of harm's way, the stranger shifts back to human form, drawing both handguns.

GypsySkye In reply to Adurnak [2010-10-13 18:06:53 +0000 UTC]

The hatchling gives a low whine as he quickly stumbles back over to his mother. The other dragonesses cower from the stranger, watching him nervously.

Adurnak In reply to GypsySkye [2010-10-13 18:14:00 +0000 UTC]

????: You have no reason to fear me. It's those creatures who should be afraid.
Holstering his guns, he extends his hand towards the doorway. A wall of silvery-gold light forms in it, blocking it completely. Turning, he draws a small, curved dagger, approaching the hatchlings mother.

She is still lying on the ground, but noticably tense when she see the movement, trying to move into a more definsive position despite her state.

Adurnak In reply to GypsySkye [2010-10-13 18:33:45 +0000 UTC]

The stranger crouches next to her head, his dagger moving in smooth, gentle strokes, cutting away the muzzle. Sheathing the blade, he lays his hand on her wound, blue-green light eminating from his palm. As the light touches the injury, the gash closes, fading along with the pain as a soothing coolness washes over the dragoness' head.

She watches him for a moment before hesitently shifting her weight back, stretching out her forepaws in front of her.

He draws his handgun, firing off a shot at the chain holding her paws together. The bust vaporizes the links, drilling a hole into the floor.
????: I'll get the mancles off later. If I use an E-50 on them you'll likely loose a paw.

GypsySkye In reply to Adurnak [2010-10-13 19:31:33 +0000 UTC]

She lifts her gaze from her paws and stares at him, flicking one of her ears. The other dragonesses ease up a little, now looking at the stranger with more curiosity then anything.

Adurnak In reply to GypsySkye [2010-10-13 19:38:32 +0000 UTC]

He stands, taking a piece of the broken chain in his hand. The chain glows, and every chain in the room instantly turns to dust, freeing the other dragoness'.

His hands flash with white energy, and suddeny they're in a gassy meadow.

The dragonesses look around in confusion. The hatchling's mother gives a low uncertain growl.
??: What is this?

Adurnak In reply to GypsySkye [2010-10-13 20:27:29 +0000 UTC]

GypsySkye In reply to Adurnak [2010-10-13 20:36:13 +0000 UTC]

One of the other dragonesses speaks up. But how is that even possible.
Some one else growls. It's not.

Adurnak In reply to GypsySkye [2010-10-13 20:46:01 +0000 UTC]

????: It is.
He closes his eyes, holding his hands out to the sides, palms up, concentrating. Fiery energy flares from his fingers, and every manicle turns to dust, along with every collar, and anything else that had been used to restrain the dragoness'.
