- I like to think that the song's about a lovesick writer who lost his beloved to a history of heavy mistreatment. He still holds her dear in his heart and is finding it extremely hard to let go. He writes whenever he gets the chance, lamenting his emotions into poems and short stories. Even once writing a novel portraying his emotions in an ill-fated love story. He constantly refers to her spiraling demise as 'running down to the riptide'.
