Description
BEHOLD!This is 's awesome GI Joe Prime, but you know I had to color it in G1 colors.
THANK YOU, SIR.
I first saw this about a year ago on the TF Wiki, and made up my mind that one day I would get brave enough to find out the Don's contact info, and ask him if I could color it. Things got a lot easier to achieve when he got on DA...
I like how it turned out. Scan made the blues a little light... Blargh.
I finished the coloring, but was dissatisfied with the pinup-on-white look. I wanted him to have some solid ground to stand on. So I threw on that shadow. I used the same browns I put into the red on Prime, to get some sense of color harmony..... But Wheeljack looked over and cracked up laughing. I asked her what was funny, and she said "nothing. It's silly." when pressed, she remarked, through giggles, in her Russian accent: "It's just... the way he's standing... And the color...!!"
And then I cracked up.
Alternate Title for this piece:
Prime Has Accident With Overactive Lubrication.
Anyways, I'm honored as always to get to work on one of Don's pieces!
More to come!
Prismacolor markers on Bristol paper. A couple dollops of white colored pencil in gun highlights.
Transformers = Not mine.
Freedom is the right of all sentient beings.
Hasbro is free to claim they own them.

He looks amazing. Do you have a pic of his alt mode?

The only alt-mode reference I can think of from this era is when he transforms to drive over a guy in Megatron: Origin. He's a big tank. I definitely recommend that book for the artwork in it.

I know! The funny thing is, I'm so steeped in War Within Prime, that I honestly didn't notice that they were windows, rather than lights, until yesterday, just before you commented on this! *facepalm lol*
I might possibly be able to un-yellow them with colored pencil... but it'd probably come out an odd color. And I kinda like the yellow, if I continue to pretend that those are Really Big Headlights...
Optimus Prime: Even his Headlights are bigger than your punkaft Decepticon blinkers!
Thanks for the critique -- I REALLY appreciate it. A lot of people will say "Oh, how nice!" But few will say "Lookit here: ya failed epically, son!" I shall endeavor to notice things like this sooner in the future!

*ttly isn't giggling like at youngling at the thought of Teh Mighty Prahme not getting to the airlock on time*
Somehow you really make your robots have "weight" to them, they look like they really are immense despite only being a few inches across on the screen
Really love how the widdle lights and windows have that yellow glow, makes me think you're off to enjoy some night time Decepticon whuppin'

Well I could have lived without Wheeljack's piquant observation...but overall I like it. Granted I am biased. I think your technique is improving. I'm seeing fewer "brush strokes" and more of the smooth comics style that is very appropriate to the subject.
The colors are bright and I agree that the green GI Joe Prime is just weird. Poor guy.

Go ahead and call me dumb, but, erm... What does "Overactive Lubrication" mean...?
Anyways.. This is pretty cool! I love how you colored this and shaded it!

Glad you like it. thanks
As for the other thing......
Oh, Wheeljack just thought it looked like he'd had a bladder control accident and peed... or possibly poo'd.........

I liked the brown shadow, and then I read what Wheeljack said...
By God. And he's got such a serious look on his face too.
Beautiful coloring as always, especially around his belly...instead of being drawn it shadow, it looks like the same color, just pushed on more to be darker. Is it?

Yeah - that's what I was going for on his little tummy there.
Thanks, pal!!
Is it sacrilege to like this version better than the "Real" one? It's just that Green!Prime is....... Um..... Weird........

But we already have a green giant! He's on the cover of the frozen veggies! Prime rocks in his original colors, especially when you're the one putting them on him!
