Description
*Download for full view with all the little details! 8D*I haven't posted a decent self portrait for awhile and decided I wanted to feel pretty again. I spent many hours taking photos in the bathroom, playing with RAW, failing to focus my camera, and editing the crap out of this.
Other than that, this photo became a bit of an experiment with elements of modeling like the upward and to the side tilt of the head and the slicked back pixy cut (I've seen models do that with their hair). I was trying to imitate the look of a professional studio photo. I don't really know if this looks studio quality, but I like it.
Feedback is appreciated!

First of all I want to say that this reminds me nothing of a self-portrait. But then I believe that's because I became too used to the trends of Myspace. It is very much a portrait and you have taken it yourself (though you wouldn't guess so)! Congrats on that feat e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s⦠" width="15" height="15" alt="

I want to further add that your pose here is quite strong. It has a very "holding my chin up" feel to it. Your styling is nice, it was smart to go with bronze tones to help your eyes pop. I also love that you've stuck to this in editing the piece. I don't care much for the earrings, but this is the one thing that sticks out to me as a bad note.
Really, this is a stunning piece!

Thank you very much for the critique. I am flattered that you wouldn't guess I took this photo myself, I did try very hard to stay away from the facebook type photo.
I appreciate you pointing out your dislike of the earrings. I was unsure of them but in the end just let them be because I didn't see anything particularly wrong with them. Now that you point them out though, I can see that they don't fit the elegant look I was going for. I will look into fixing this.

Wow, this is a wonderful self-portrait. It looks awesome! I adore the texture you used. It looks so beautiful and fantastical. I think it works perfectly for the piece. I think the colors go well with your skin, too. Your hair looks nice the way it's slicked back and I like how your eyebrows are nicely sculpted and the way your head is tilted. You look really pretty. ^^ Your eyes show up well, too.
I think this piece does look professional. And it has artistic integrity, unlike some of the crappy stuff that I see in magazines. You did a good job on it.

Thank you very much! I wasn't sure how I was going to finish this piece in the beginning, it had bathroom tiles in the background and I thought they looked fairly nice and was thinking about replacing them with nicer bathroom tiles. Of course searching for tiles as stock lead me to searching for seamless stock, which lead me to this beautiful texture that I've used. That texture was just too pretty to not use and I ended up going for a more fantastical look.
There was a lot of color adjustment to get my skin to not look to pink, and to get rid of the blue tinge my lips had. I happen to like nude colors in portraits and don't like it when there are strange hues like the blue-red lips.
Artistic integrity huh? That makes me feel like I've achieved something. You make me feel all successful and stuff.

It's neat how pieces evolve as you go, huh? I'm so glad you stumbled upon that texture. I think it looks perfect for this.
Well, whatever you did, it looks nice. It looks very natural and feminine. I like how it turned out. Especially the lips. They look really nice.
Yes, I mean it. Just flip through a magazine and you can tell that people have sold their souls. You actually evoke emotions in your artwork. And I'm glad. You should feel that way. ^^

I was rather lucky to stumble upon that texture. I don't think I could have found a better one.
I'm glad you like it, my mother said she didn't like the way I did the lips, she thought that the color wasn't as pretty as the original color, but I disagreed.
I know what you mean, many magazine photos are so fake, so plastic. The models don't come across as living breathing people, just bodies. They are pretty things to stare at. I hope to never be so empty looking.
