Description I'm not really sure how to talk about this piece. When I saw the original photo I decided I would try for the darker and more abstract look, a lot like a majority of the photos I've been looking at this week.

I have recently become enamored by a particular style of photography that is generally black and white and features distorted reality and/or people that are blurred, out of focus, or somehow captured in an abstract way.

here are a few photos that have piqued my interest.

Wow, this is a very disturbing and cool piece. I was so sure this was a photo-manip, but I guess I was wrong. I can see why the other photos inspired you. I think this is a much darker version of the same concept. It's very distorted and I think the blur of the face in contrast with the sharpness of the hair makes me have the emotions that I have when I look at it. Great experimenting. I think this came out well.

well, its a bit of a manip, I did do a lot of contrast adjustment because the original was very light and hard to see, and I also desaturated it. But I didn't change the composition, I really di use long exposure to capture the motion.

I'm happy for your feedback. I tried very hard with this photo to achieve a dark and almost frightening image, but to still have a beautiful eeriness. I especially find that when the facial features are very distorted it illicits more of an emotional response. Facial features are a major part of emotional photos in my opinion.

Well, you did a really good job on it. It honestly scares the hell out of me. Disturbing in a good way, though. I like it.

I completely agree with you. The facial distortions are what I find disturbing. I think another good title for the photo would've been "Identity Crisis" or "Mental Deterioration". That's the feelings it invokes in me.

I'm glad it invokes such a strong emotional reaction, to me that means this piece is a success.

I like that title Mental Deterioration... I really like it, but I also have grown attached to the title Wring.
Maybe I'll post another and use that title.

I like this one. It reminds me of Placebo's artwork and CD cover for their album Meds.

They both have a similar look.
