Thanks so much for sharing! May I ask what you're using to apply the dock icons? Is it a custom dock, or did you just set the icons to your apps after converting them to ICNS format? c:

Just change the apps´ icons, so they will change in dock

Also no need for .icns format, you can use png instead.

What?? XD How? Please, teach me! lmao I've been unable to use .PNG unless I use some sort of program to read and apply it that way. I've always had to convert to .ICNS for straight applying with the Get Info method. If you use a program like Image2Icon, it's converting it for you even when you drag in the app icon to apply (which is how you're able to just send a straight icon to your desktop). Makes me really, really miss Candybar. OTL Ugh, the ease of use...how I miss it.

Do you have that problem with all apps or just with a few? In some cases you have to change the icon inside the content of the app. AppXY.app/Contents/Ressources/appicon.icns. In that case you really have to use icns. Don't have the problem you describe and always use the get info method for apps  - Finder and trash need another way indeed.

EDIT: attached video. Maybe you just copy/paste wrong...?

When I try the method you showed, this is what it shows me.

This is a 3rd Party app, copy/pasted exactly as you showed form a PNG file, and it shows the PNG file format as the icon instead.

This happens with all my apps when I try PNG files.  If I converted it to ICNS file type with a program like IMG2Icon, I have zero issues, even with the Apple "protected" apps (since I disabled SIP).

Any ideas?

OK that's strange. This only would happen if you copy/paste the whole .png file instead of it's content via preview.app.

But I don't have any idea what's going wrong there, sorry

EDIT: Even installed übersicht.app and tried to change the icon the copy/paste way and it's working here.

Maybe my system is bugged or something...? ; w ; I'm not sure, either. It's been doing this for a really long time, so I just thought that this was a restriction on the newer MacOS after they implemented SIP and all that. I've factory restored my computer during one of the newer OS updates, too, so it's been fresh for a while lol. My guess is its something to do with the computer's user permissions, but I don't have enough know-how to go and fix all of that myself;;

I just have to use ICNS for the time being I guess. :') At least I know that works!

Thank you for trying to help in any case! I'm even more confused now that you were able to get one to work that I couldn't lmao xDDD;; At least I know its something for sure that isn't supposed to happen.
