i have this weird interpretation that i'm going to share with you.
it looks like the man's head exploded into a tree so it's sort of like getting back to nature. like how humans spend their entire lives fighting nature to build their own things like houses and businesses and destroy nature but when you die you're buried in the ground and you decompose back into nature, becoming a part of it. does that make sense? i'm not sure but that's what i get out of this. i think it's simply lovely.

thanks for the comments/your interpretation. i always enjoy hearing others thoughts. i know of a few other people who have tree ideas with this piece, and yours totally makes sense.

you're most welcome. i'm glad it makes sense, sometimes things make sense in my head but once i actually say them out loud they don't.

thanks. lets see if i can remember correctly (and hopefully make sense)... this one is a photoetching so:
- i took a ink drawing that i had (of the suit and all) and got it transfered to some clear plastic sheet via scanning and computers or something? (i didnt actually do that part so i have no idea)
- take a zinc plate and put some crazy peel off sheet on it (this will recieve the image)
- with some big light machine the image on the clear plastic sheet gets transfered onto the zinc plate
- put the zinc plate into an acid bath which "etches" or eats away the parts of the image that arent the image (as recieved by the light)
- take the "etched" plate and put some ink on it when its heated up and smear the ink into the "etched" grooves
- put a piece of paper on the plate and run it through a printing press...TADA!
ahh sorry my explanation makes very little sense but its the general idea. its quite the process, i only ended up making one print...i wish i had made more though. i still have the plate so maybe one day i will. who knows
thanks again.

I agree with some of the others, this is a fantastic little etching. I would love to see this resubmitted with a better pic.

thanks for the comments. i just replaced my rather appalling photo with a scan of it. (just got a scanner!) looks sort of blown out, but its closer to the original than the photo.

Hey Hans, I knew I recognized this piece. I know I told you a million and one times already that I love your prints but I really do. When I really look at this one and start to get into the lines and all the movement and chaos that is happening I swear I start to twitch. Your use of space and composition is extremely effective and I actually wish you had put your prints in the show and sale because they're really strong pieces. (And I most definately would have bought some)

hey hey Rebecca (sorry if i butchered the spelling)
at first, the "kathleen" alias thing threw me off, i started thinking i was being stalked by people i dont know, but then i checked out your page. ah thanks, my lack of time management led to my non-participation in the show and sale, hopefully next year though.

Hahaha yeah Kathleen's my middle name and Messagefromkathlene is a song that I like. Leaving a name next time would probably eliminate the confusion! But I understand, end of the semester and everything it's tough to get it all together, but there are plenty more to come and I'll definately keep my eye out.

yeah, the etching itself isnt cleanesque in any manner but i do agree that my photography skills (or lack thereof) arent any help

thanks. yeah, the idea was a bursting head but all interpretations work. one person ive talked to thought it was supposed to be a treehead. to each his/her own i guess.
