Description A painting from my A-Level project to re-imagine the environments from a book I read a while ago. I used way to much colour in this, its supposed to be all clean cut and futuristic but in the end I had to settle for tacky holiday resort. Maybe try and guess the book?

[Used a Sketchup model I made as a reference: [link] ]

Any tips for improvement would be appretiated

I really like the feel of the environment on this one it is like version of future of Japan. If Japan stayed its old building tradition ways. I miss Japan even though I am filipino because their really dedicated to thier work plus they like anime so much. Great job on this.

.oO(Methinks this be cyberpunk. Oh! It is cyberpunk! KhaoShar licks cyberpunk!)

I have no idea which book this could be, though. Most cyberpunk I know is from the novels to the Shadowrun game. Maybe I should read more? I would surely like to read this one if you point me in the right direction. An when I come to this place, it will look like this in my imagination :3

Haha, sure it's called Neuromancer bt William Gibson. Although I definatly didn't capture how it looks in the book, just to warn you

That's Neuromancer? Dang, I knew I had missed out on something! I've had Mona Lisa Overdrive lying around here for years now but didn't want to read it before the other two books. Well, time to catch up on them now, I think :3 Thanks for the pointer!

Mercenary-Artist [2013-10-29 21:41:18 +0000 UTC]

Great feeling of depth, lighting and texture.
The structures and composition comes across as well researched as well.

My critique would be that the mid ground and foreground are a bit too loose.
As the paint strokes get closer to the point of view they should make more complex shapes (showing edges and bevels of the shingles etc) thus laying the ground work for whats implied through simpler painting in the mid and background.

It works as a thumbnail but as a full fledged piece it has to read 100% at a glance.
Its a common issue with concept work that takes practice and patience to break past.

Thanks for the critique. I'd wanted to go into more detail with the foreground but I lack the know how at this point, I've been thinking that I might need to go and practice drawing roof tiles/shingles just to work out how paint them for pieces like this.

It is an interesting style. I think you should pursue this style and see where it leads! I love the color in it!

Cheers . The style wasnt intentional but just how it turned out, I think its basing it on a google render that helped it to turn out as it did
