I like how they made it much more realistic in Twilight Princess, with the black thing that covers his mouth when he goes underwater. Much more believable. Great picture!

It's magic, you're not supposed to apply logic to it.

It's a fairy tale game anyway.
It's not really supposed to make sense.

He should have an underwater breathing device that gets strapped to his face and has a giant rubber fish tied to it that floats on the top of the water.

Hylians use magic, Link is a Hylian, the tunic is MAGIC (so Link won't choke underwater)..Navi, is just a ball of light that says "Hey! Listen!"
Besides in Twilight Princess, a single piece of cloth that covers your nose and mouth, just probably works the same way.

I think it works because it could possibly alter Link's lungs, which the tunic rests on (inside his chest), to make it possible for him to breathe in water and not air

Magic... duh? heh dont blame me, it's Zelda... the same with Nayru's love, Farore's wind and Din's fire (what you thought... explosives!?)
sorry for not saying something nice instead... I think you get more than enough "lol that was funny" or "lol nice pic" everyday heh

Easily put, this one is one of the hundreds of RPG clichΓ©s - 'When one needs a completely useless item for a task, the reason is always "magic".'

hmmm... could be like what happens in Harry Potter 4... that weed thingy... it could give him gils O.o; or make him like a mud skipper.. both lungs and gils.. like behind his ears.. like in waterworld.. never know.. and this game has shit in it that is more acid trippy then a tunic that lets you breath underwater...

me neither, and I actually fought with my brother about it. he says that it's just more of the magic that happens so much in the Zelda series, I say there has to be a scientific approach, and I brought up the goron tunic, and proved it scientifically to him, but i can't prove the zora tunic to him.
DARN YOU, ZORAS!!!!!!!!!!
*the Indi-go's burst through the door with Zora Link leading them, all screaming that they want revenge against the Zora hater*
