Description
The 'Homefront Defence' space cruiser was intended to do what the name implies, to defend the homefront and more specifically the solar system. These huge ships were considered as 'prototypes' because they didn't enter mass production due to their cost, size, weight and production time. In fact, there were only four of those manufactured and those people who got to set foot on one of them were considered to be lucky. There were rumors of such ships seen near outer colonies but they weren't confirmed as the navy's prototype ships' operations were classified to the public. This ship was as long as a 'Goliath' class battlecruiser but it was a lot wider. The ship's body was very heavy and specifically constructed to sustain the weight of the two massive triple-cannon anti-spacecraft railgun turrets. These turrets were so huge that it didn't allow for much additional weaponry to be added on the ship which made its underbelly completely exposed. This lack of weapons on the ship's underbelly left all bottom engines and stabilizers exposed and the ships of this class weren't particularly agile so this was a huge weakness that could be easily exploited. That's why such a warship although really powerful could never be seen fighting alone. This ship also had another weakness - an overly exposed bridge tower. The ship's design was obviously inspired by WW2 battleship designs. Although the ship was very bulky and had two big weak points it was doing the specific job it was designed to do very efficiently and that being to bring down enemy capital ships with a single firing of its main batteries. The ship's remaining armament contained 4 small twin-cannon multi-purpose railgun turrets, 2 multi-purpose railgun turrets, 2 twin-cannon railgun turrets, 4 manually operated twin-cannon aa high-caliber machine gun turrets and 10 automated aa minigun turrets with no guided missiles present. The weight of the ship didn't allow for normally sized hangars to be added to it. However, it had a very small hangar that could store two dropships for evacuation purposes in case of an emergency and one additional third landing pad. The HD cruiser also had all already developed advanced defense systems installed (MDS, DSSDS). This model much like the destroyer had a very small crew due to most of its systems being entirely automated and repairs being done by drones. Three of these ships were developed and manufactured entirely in the machine forgeries on Mars and one of them on Earth.
