I noticed there wasn't a tutorial on dA for actually putting your hair up like this - just how to do wigs. Fixed.I have some ideas as to how to modify this for the Tao Ran bunny ears, but it's late and I don't feel like fussing with my hair anymore.

One more thing. Well... I don't remember when or where but I once saw the picture of a girl with odango hair, only she didn't have the bun covers AND she didn't braid her pigtails. Instead, there was a long, tiny braid wrapped on each odango like hairties (she probably tied her odango with a real hairtie and then wrap the tiny braid around it afterwards, I guess, because they didn't look strong enough to hold a whole bun). I really like it but I'm not very lucky when experimenting with my hair. Do you think you can do a tutorial for that?

Oh, I think I know how that would be done - separate out a strand of hair, and then wrap the rest up into a bun. Then braid the strand you left out and wrap it around the base of the bun :3
I'd do a tutorial for it, but I got my hair chopped off not too long ago and I don't really have much left to work with ^_^;;

Instead of the braided bun look, I like to ponytail, then tease my hair with a little hairspray, and wrap it in a bun. It gives it the 'solid' bun look, and I never have to worry about my buns being too small for the covers because they are flexible and fill the covers. Also, bobby pins to hold the teased hair into the bun shape (obviously pin at bases, crosses, and lose hairs.)

I use the braids because my hair is really thick and it tends to go all over the place; keeping it braided helps me avoid tangles later on.

I cut my hair, so now I do them without the covers - just a couple of pony-buns on either side of my head

In profile you look about 5 years younger than you are, and straight on you look the right age or older. Fun! ^_^

Another thing you could do with shorter hair is, instead of making a full pigtail, pull your hair only partway through the last loop of the hairtie, then wrap the tail of it around the loop of hair and just pin it in place. A little more effort, but it'd pad out the bun cover nicely, and since it's all going to be covered up what's underneath doesn't really matter.

Bun covers are easy, they take like five seconds to make. I'm working on making some elasticized ones, and I'll probably put a pattern up once I figure out how.

I actually already knew how to do that, sadly, I am a guy so I am not going to style my hair in that fashion. Single low braid maybe...

I wouldn't even go for a single bun. a pony tail or single braid is enough styling for me thanks.
