They told me later on that King Dedede was amongst the group of attackers, but I suspect that it was really a Shadow Bug clone.((Apparently, there was supposed to be this one scene in Subspace Emissary where Dedede assists in taking over the Halberd, but it was cut out…))

I remember reading what Sakurai had to say about the background of this adventure. King Dedede was fighting you for a reading I can't remember right now, but his reasons were seperate from the Subspace Emissary stealing your ship. Because you were distracted with Dedede their attempt to steal your ship was successful.
Or so I think that's how it goes. Correct me if I got any sure details wrong.
