((I often see complaints crop up on Tumblr about how players commonly "copout" in For Glory Mode by using Little Mac because there are no additional platforms and plenty of ground space. There was even a Yahoo article about it at one point.))

[ I completely agree, I tend to ignore the tier list as well overall. Though in Brawl, the characters were tremendously unbalanced, with enough skill, you could still manage to space a Meta Knight with Yoshi, or accurately juggle a Marth with Ganondorf. I've witnessed it fist-hand on numerous occasions. Though, most (competitive) players use the tier list to judge, "Oh well, this character is SS tier, so he / she must be able to easily dominate so-and-so here on the mid-tier." No. This is highly inaccurate considering there are numerous variations of skill-levels.

A prime example would have to be APEX 2013, Grand Finals, Mewtwoking (Metaknight) vs. Salem (Zero Suit Samus). Now, a player with a mediocre style of thinking would immediately assume, "Oh well, Mewtwoking's one of the best smash players in the world. He always mains the character ranked in the highest tier, so he'll dominate this guy, and close out the tournament." That was not the case...At all...I do believe out of three sets, Salem was in favor with 2-1. Not to mention if you actually witness the match, you can clearly see Salem was out-playing M2K in numerous categories, despite him playing as the supposed, unstoppable broken force of Brawl.

I myself see it as more as credibility. I would never judge someone who played a supposed low-tier, but I like to see characters who were frowned and looked down upon in the past get recognition. Everyone claimed Meta-Knight was going to be of a low-standard just because they nerfed his attack animations and speed, yet he's a remarkably great character. You'd be surprised of how players are quick to assume a characters "bad" just because the can't dominate a set by enforcing little-to-no effort. ]
