Description Halo Galactic Map

This piece took me almost 2 days to complete after a week of research and reading. No one has yet produced a map such as this before for the Halo Universe, and I just wanted to open the door. Plans are in the works for a higher resolution image as well as a flash application. This project could not have been accomplished if it weren't for my friends over at Halopedia.com [link] and of course those crazy cats over at Bungie [link]

A lot of what I did here was think. I thought about where certain places would be in the scale of things and also, using my above average knowledge of where certain markers are in the actual Milky Way, I was able to put certain places - like Reach and Harvest - in an accurate position.

This is a growing piece and I would HOPE that if you have any conflict with this image you would post up your source. I would be more than happy to adjust places if I were proven wrong

06/08/2009
I will not be updating this version of the map. This is a piece I like and am going to keep the same. The next gen will be more "accurate" - according to some people its not perfectly accurate with their findings. Updates will be sent out.

06/09/2009
The foundation has been "broken" on the updated Haloverse Galactic Map.

For further discussion on this and the next upcoming project please view the thread here - [link]

Thank you! Enjoy!

Excellent Design. The color choice is well done as well, and despite the admittedly large amount of content in the map it doesn't feel cluttered. It's an excellent bit of work.

I'm in the process of making a Halo-based, Covenant-centric RPing Forum called Age of Reconcilliation, and I was wondering if I could use your map on it so that players have some perspective (With your permission and with reference to you as the Map's creator). It would be incredibly helpful, and I'll tell you, I'd be honored if I could use it.

Sure, just reference the piece to my deviant. I have no problem with that.

um... Im pretty sure almost everything human and covonent related are all in the orion arm, and the human stuff pretty bunched up close together >_>

Halcylon In reply to Juggernaught9900 [2009-10-05 16:41:14 +0000 UTC]

Well this is an interpretation of what is out there. There's not a whole lot of data available and Bungie doesn't even know where everything is.

Juggernaught9900 In reply to Halcylon [2009-10-05 19:54:53 +0000 UTC]

but they give out lightyears for the human colonies, the furthest from earth being Beta centauri at 525 lightyears. So the milkyway galaxy is 100,000 lightyears across, and at 525 lightyears that should be at the edge of what you labeled to be the inner colonies. I found this map with some of the systems [link] , sorry if Im being irritating I've just got this anal thing about accuracy lol.

As we all do, but this was just a first draft. I know there are things out of place. There are four pages of comments to show that. The real project for the interactive and "as accurate as possible" flash map is underway.

Are you still working on the new version of this, or have you abandoned the project? I would love seeing one in proportion - maybe just take a small area of the milky way seeing as not much happens in established canon outside the orion arm.

Halcylon In reply to AshSR [2009-10-03 18:17:46 +0000 UTC]

I haven't given up hope. The engineer working on the flash portion had to put it aside so I have to find a new flash engineer to build the map with me.

Wow this is a great chart of the galaxy for halo, sort of puts a perspective for the halo universe.
The only thing you missed(in my opinion) was the last known posistion of the Spirit of Fire.
.
.
.
(SPOILER ALERT)
Also sort of tells you were the Master Chief could be at the end of Halo 3. I think if he caught the tail end of the portal leading back to earth from the ARK, it would put him smack dab in the middle of Covenant controlled space. Also in between Jiralanae space and Onyx so depending of spacail anomolies and a drift factor he could be anywhere.

Thats pretty damn cool man, i've been looking for somthing like this for a long time.
But there is one thing, wasnt Chi Rho closer to the outer-colonies? I remember reading that it was, but on this map it's practically in the back. That and u forgot mars, but hey, its still a great map.

If you made this and did not just take it from the net then why is the quality so horrible? If you can you should save it as a png next time and avoid jpg's. I would fave this but since it looks like shit I won't.

This is wonderful, great work. Although I do believe in your legend it should say "Yanme'e" not "Palamok" shouldn't it? See as the others in the legend refer to the specie and not the home planet?

Halcylon, this map is very much needed for the fans, we can now see where planets and systems are visually and gauge their distances. I'm saving this for future reference, great stuff as always Hal.

Very Nice! I'd like someone to do a map similar to this, showing where the Multiplayer maps were.

Maybe making a map of the Ark showing mission progression as well as where Isolation,Construct and Narrows take place at.
