Description Yeah I know Doom 3 is kind of an old game to boast about being able to handle on your machine. But still it DOES look nice, especially with some of the good graphics enhancing modifications the fandom puts out.

Here's one of the weaker enemies, the Wraith, right after slaughtering one of your buddies and now roaring in your face with it's Predator-like mouth.

Currently Running Doom 3 at:
1600X1200 resolution vsync turned on.
4X antialiasing
8X anisotropic filtering
graphic settings, Ultra quality all effects turned on.
Using Brilliant Highlights Mod.

I forgot to ask you, have you ever played the infamous "UAC Labs" maps for Doom II?

No, why?

Because those maps have a generous amount of monsters in them (the last part has several Archviles roaming around, and when you defeat them, you just see the walls of that arena turn pink from the sheer number of pink demons running around).

Oh, and those levels are infamous because they were made by Eric Harris, he was one of the perpetrators of Columbine High massacre (but before you say anything, I'd like to mention that my friend was there in the cafeteria when it happened, he knew both perpetrators as well as some victims like Rachel Scott, and he mentioned that he still likes to play Doom and a lot of other games, because he finds them quite nice).

Yeah, a lot of them didn't look so much like Demons as much as just aliens.. that was a shame. But Doom3 is a good game, and seeing as how Doom4 looks to be a remake of Doom2.. well I'm hyped. I can't wait to see how they make entire city streets and sky scrapers to fight demons in. It'll be like how Doom2 was MEANT to look like.

lol damn, are you finding all the 'System Crushing' games that you can so you can test how well you run them? Did you ever try any Battlefield games? Like 2142? That requires an assload of power to run at max but it plays fantastically at normally any setting ( but higher is better you know lol )

Anyways, nice shot of this little jackass, although I always though Id's games were always a bit goofy. Like Quake 4... ( or am I just thinking of the Engine and not the company ..? )

Half-dude In reply to UnrealFox [2009-07-31 10:12:16 +0000 UTC]

Really this doesn't qualify as a system crashing or even stressing game anymore. It's only four years old but it already looks like crap sometimes by today's standards. Heck I can remember when I was waiting for this to come out, and how psyched I was.. wow that was a whole computer ago.. haha.

Actually ID software, or more the genius John Carmack who wrote all the engines, is to thank for lots of over famous titles. For example, the original Half-life used the Quake 3 engine, which obviously is the engine Quake 3 used which was made by ID software. Quake 4 was actually made by Raven software even though the series's story was ID's, they just basically watched over Raven's development. Quake 4 actually uses the same engine as Doom 3, the Doom 3 engine. So what I'm trying to say really is that ID software makes all their own graphics engines and many other famous companies have bought the rights to the engines and made their OWN games that run off of them.

I actually can run Battlefield 2 at about medium High.. I could probably go higher but I don't like to stress my computer if I don't have to. Battlefield really can't look much better then it does now.. it really isn't that impressive to look at being that it has to keep it simple being online only.

Aaaaah that's right, I got confused for a minute. I do remember when the world was awaiting Doom 3 dropping for a long loooong time, and whole computer systems were being updated, or thrown out and replaced JUST for that game. ( good eats ) Then I think maybe a year later Quake 4 dropped, and it had the same engine lol that's probably where I got back tracked.

I see what you mean about BF2, I guess it doesn't need to be any higher quality especially if it's more about bustin heads than enjoying the scenery. Not much to admire when there's a whole 32 man company pumping bullets over your head and into your 31 allies.

So are you interested in any other games to test their performance as well? Like Assassin's Creed?

I'm FPS at heart, the only 3rd person game I've ever really liked was American McGee's Alice and the Hitman series. I also like some RPGs like Stalker and Fallout3 but that's because they're like FPS games. XD

Did you ever play that kind of weird game, Prey? It used a beefed up Doom3 engine too.

UnrealFox In reply to Half-dude [2009-08-01 03:38:12 +0000 UTC]

Actually No, I didn't lol. Although I heard it had issues somewhere. ( you know, bug trackers like to find shit that breaks and why. Kind of like the issues that occur with Fallout3. Did you have a chance to check it out?

Half-dude In reply to UnrealFox [2009-08-01 04:53:09 +0000 UTC]

I have it, and no, no issues.

UnrealFox In reply to Half-dude [2009-08-01 05:06:42 +0000 UTC]

Sweet. Normally when I pick up a game, I usually find an error more server side, ( you know ... a random disconnect ) or if it's ever the game, it's usually my computer ( like a sound loop, or a slight lag that offsets a shot or something of the such )

What's been your favorite game thus far?? Like graphically and story wise? I thought Crysis was pretty badass, although I expected for 'everyone' to get killed in your squad. It was a twist for Psycho to have his own game and your commander to roll out during that ... whatever the hell was going on, in the suits some of your enemies had.

I've actually been playing through Doom 3 again. You see at some points I get very obsessed with a series and play it to death then get bored again. Well over the repeated obsessions I've had with the Doom series I wrote quite a detailed and thought out timeline that puts Doom 1 and 3 in one timeline, both of the games happening at the same time except one taking place on Phobos and the other on Mars. I've actually got some more updating to do on it, but if you like the Doom series you should really check it out!

UnrealFox In reply to Half-dude [2009-08-01 06:16:52 +0000 UTC]

I always mix my Doom up with my Quake, all because of Quake4 and Doom3, not to mention I played alot of Quake3Arena because I had nothing better to do for a summer ( well, that ... UT99 and stealing shit because I was a jobless bastard that liked cars )

I probably should check em out though, I didn't get into Doom3 very much because I didn't get to go buy it. But it looked and played very veeery good. The only gripe I had was the flashlight ... but I got over that fairly quickly. Especially when I started saying 'fuk it' and flash light bashed a couple guys to death ... Although, I had to quit doing that when I realized that bein pissed off and bold just made you look more stupid that brave when the REAL enemies came crawling out of the holes in the walls >.0 ...
