This was the beginning of the construction of my lighthouse. It actually started out as something completely different. When I'd first found the island I built my house on I noticed light coming from under the ocean (thanks minecraft physics) and realized they were cave openings in the ocean floor. So in order to more easily explore one of the caves I built a hallow cement shaft leading up from the cave entrance to the surface.

Afterwords when I decided I wanted to try exploring other shorelines far away I wanted to make a big marker so that I wouldn't loose my house. That's when the idea to build a lighthouse on top of the shaft came to my mind.
