The shoulder pad generates a magnetic field to protect him against energy based projectiles along with activating and sending signals to the attachments on the tail, arms, neck and hat that maps him and allows for the AI to identify that he is there, the device on the hat serving for transmission to the goggles to allow kos to see the AIs in the area to make sure he doesn't lose them from sight, as well as visually warn him whether it became hostile or not. The gun is only used to neutralize and disable the AI.
