All right, I admit it. In the description of my last post , I was playing by lawyer rules. I'm a bad person and I should feel bad. I said the scene would be 100% show canon, and it is. I just didn't specify which show the scene was canon to. Certainly not Friendship is Magic, as correctly points out in the comments.

Originally, this wasn't even going to be a Rescue at Midnight Castle scene. I simply wanted to do an underwater picture featuring the Sea Ponies in a FiM style (if you're wondering "why", see my latest journal entry ). I decided to go back and re-watch the Sea Pony scene in the original G1 special to get a firmer idea of what their original character design looked like. I was surprised to realize that the poor pony in peril was none other than Applejack, the only RaMC character to have escaped the transition to FiM without a major visual overhaul. The idea of recreating the scene using the G4 character design was immensely appealing to me.

On a technical note, this piece was a bit of an experiment. I love making characters using vector graphics. You can experiment and play with the poses and perspective to get exactly what you want- almost like sculpting the image out of clay. At the same time, I've always found doing more abstract imagery, such as backgrounds, to be easier and more interesting in traditional painting software. This time, I decided to combine the two. The background was done entirely in ArtRage 4, while the foreground, final composition and effects were done using PonyScape 0.4. I quite like the result.
