Xant the Hedgehog

Weapon: He uses the claws on his hands mainly, he is pretty decent at fist fighting and uses his claws to his advantage
Powers: Thermokenesis- The power to create, control, and manipulate heat

Personality: Xant is a quiet person. It’s not often he will be in the leadership position when in a group or even take action if its necessary. He has many insecurities which lead to him having anxiety issues, thinking that he will never be enough or be good enough to help others. Luckily, his brother helps ease him out of his fears with some time together, but they always come creeping back if he spends enough time away from Arrow. Xant is the more empathetic of the two stepbrothers, often taking into consideration other people’s feelings before taking action. He tends to be more goal oriented, wanting to accomplish great tasks but not having the means to achieve his goals. Money is often an issue with him and his brother since they have no real means of financial support, so its just another anxiety that he has to worry about. He is often the caretaker of his brother, despite being a few months younger than him. He is more emotionally mature because of the trauma he went through as a child and so he wants to do anything he can to make Arrow happy since their parents are gone. He loves his close friends, family, and partners intensely, and would do anything to protect them from harm, even if it meant putting himself in danger. He does not like to use his powers of Thermokenesis because he does not want to be associated with his father in any way shape or form, so you will never see him using it unless its a very dire situation and those never really come up.
Backstory:

The fighting between his mother and father is all he could remember from his early years.
He never really understood why they decided to get together and how they managed to conceive him, or why they even decided to for that matter. They lived decently in an urban lakeside city until Xant was about 5 years old, then a major fight happened between his Mom and Fireside. One day, his father was just gone, and his mother was left alone with scorch marks, refusing to cry in front of her son.
From there they moved away, abandoning that small city and erasing it from their memories, moving to a large city in which they would blend in perfectly with a large variety of different people from all over Mobius. They lived alone for a few years, him and his mom got along well and were close; she always made the time for Xant and made sure that he was happy. There was never really a dull moment in his life. At the age of 9, Xant’s mom started to date someone new, someone who actually loved her for once. He was a porcupine, he was significantly bigger than her and even bigger and taller than 9-year-old Xant. Initially, he was afraid of his mom’s boyfriend, but after a while, when both parents were comfortable, they introduced their two sons together. This was when Xant first met Arrow, who at the time was known as Ezekiel.
The two boys were nearly inseparable after that. They went near everywhere together and when people talked of Xant, they would often talk of Arrow too and vice versa. The rag-tag family spent years together, Arrow’s father married Xant’s mother and they became a new family when the boys were around 11, living in the city away from danger and any threat from Xant’s father.
When Xant turned 13, his powers started to develop and like most kids, he didn’t realize the effect that his powers could have on other people or himself. Him and Arrow were shocked at first, Xant could control heat?! How cool is that! And they went and tested out the young hedgehog’s powers without any sort of restraint, going into the forest much like Xant’s father did when he first gained his powers too to burn down trees and start fires.
These actions didn’t go unnoticed by the people of the town and the kids were punished, their faces appeared in the city newspaper. Xant saw the fear in his mother’s eyes and he knew what it meant, but didn’t fully understand what he’d done quite yet. His mother and stepfather told the boys to practice in the safety of their home from now on, where they would monitor their experiments and turn off the fire alarms so that no one would be alarmed. Of course this led to more than a few house fires, but nothing that burned the whole place down. Just the kitchen.
A year passed, the news of the fires the boys had set died down in the city and they were largely forgotten about except for at school, where they endured the occasional teasing before lashing out at bullies… not with Xant’s powers of course, but with fists, claws, and the occasional painful quill from Arrow’s back. One the way home one evening it was unusually quiet in their neighborhood, but the boys didn’t take notice, they continued on their way like they would any other time. When they approached their house, the faint smell of something disgusting and burnt reached their noses. They exchanged a worried glance and ran to their home, hoping to find an answer to the concerning smell.
They burst in the door to their home, only to find a charred corpse on the floor and their mother beneath the boot of a hedgehog. Xant had seen him before, but Arrow had never seen or felt the pulsing heat and fiery rage of Fireside, Xant’s birth father. Upon seeing the two children Fireside released a deep chuckle, crushing their mother’s head father beneath his boot.

“Is the other kid his?” He motioned with his eyes to the burnt corpse on the ground. It was still smoking. “Did you think that you could start a life that I wasn’t in control of?”
    Before anything else was spoken Arrow lunged at the stranger, the man who murdered his father and was close to killing his stepmother. Easily, Fireside grabbed the 14-year-old by the wrist and covered it in his napalm gel. The smell was like rotten eggs and was overwhelming to Arrow, he gagged on the smell alone, trying to keep quiet. Xant knew that with one flick of his wrist, Fireside could ignite the gel and burn Arrow alive, just like he did their stepfather.
    Xant tried to light him on fire with his own powers, but Fireside was immune. He laughed at his son, feeling only more power course through his body at the feeling of the intense heat. Arrow released a high pitched whine of pain from the intense heat Xant was making to try and defeat Fireside. Luckily, the young hedgehog stopped in time to spare Arrow more than a 2nd degree burn. Fireside laughed at Xant’s efforts and let Arrow go, his frail body falling to the ground beside his stepmother and father as the older hedgehog walked over to Xant. He grabbed Xant by the cheeks with one hand, the reek of napalm overwhelming Xant’s senses and making him hold his breath.

“You belong to me too, so when I return, I expect you and your mother to be waiting for me.”
    That was the last thing he said as he slowly walked out of the house, the smell of napalm fading with him. Xant couldn’t hold back anymore and vomited right then, wiping his mouth off before running to his brother and mother, checking to be sure if they were okay.
    Later that night, the remaining three of the family cut their losses and left, leaving their stepfather behind. There wasn’t much left of him anyways. Xant and arrow had to drag the body of their mother behind them. She was too weak to walk after being beaten senseless by her ex-husband. They stayed hidden for the woods for a short time before the smell of burning overcame them again. Xant and Arrow looked out from the edge of the forest and saw their city burning and knew they could never go back.
    When their mother recovered, she wanted to move on. Leave. Go somewhere and start again like when this first happened with Xant’s father. The boys were appalled, they didn’t understand. They wanted to chase after this man and get revenge for what he destroyed. Their mother softly disagreed and insisted they come with, to which both boys had to deny her. They left her side, leaving her alone while they went off to start making their own way, to hope to one day take down Xant’s father and hopefully stop him from ever doing something like that again.
