Description
I've called this as its best... because i think there are so many parts of this image and the process of taking it that are things... i guess at its best... Sure its not the best photo in the world, but being out in such incredible nature to take photos is photography at its best... spending a full day out in the nature with only a camera is life at its best..This photo is taken in the Yarra Valley Ranges around 30 minutes outside of Melbourne, Australia. I was lucky enough to spend a day around there taking photos with Changas ([link] ) who is an incredible photographer and is sure to have photos of the ranges in his gallery as well. This is my first shot ever at a HDR image, and apart from that all i have done is a slight adjustment to the levels, i hope you enjoy it.

It's very cool the way the water looks all misty. Did you edit this with a computer program?

yeah its a technique called HDR where you take 3 photos... all at the same shutter speed but different exposure, then the computer mixes them together, and it just helps to get detail out of every area of the photo rather than lose it in the shadows and highlights

First I agree with *RDLagrand in regards that the left plant is an element that in a way is intrusive but dilemma - If you crop the bottom you lose the flow of the water. If you crop the left side you lose nature so reality is that: it is a nature shot and you have limitation.
A few different angles at the same location would be a good idea including possibly - shoot laying down at the edge of the stream and try to avoid as much and concentrate on the serenity of the water.
But in the overall it is a very nice and serene shot, and the branch in the water goes left with the water flow and does act as a leading line. The rest is well done and with HDR - it is easy to go into overkill (which can be great depending on the shot) but you didn't HDR overkill, and it worked well.
The DOF/shutter speed works very well to capture the nature as the scene with the concentration on the stream. So overall a very nice scene and as nature tends to lead a peaceful scene, this one is very much so.

thankyou very much. i wasnt able to get down to water level which would of been really cool but that was impossible with the landscape. My legs have so many cuts on them from walking through the forest to get to that spot. I have about 30 other photos from the same series but i think ill concentrate on this one only, check [link] as he came with me and will post some photos he took there that came out really well, im not sure if they're done yet.

I saw this one [link] - is that the one you plan to work with? Since that is a different angle showing mainly stream but would be interesting to do see the difference. On 'At it's Best' is a very good representation of nature and the element is just that:nature.
So in cases like that you have to work with what you have unless you can invent-a-shot...in that, I was taking some photos in nature this year taking a break. I was at this one site that seemed nice but the water was still so I found the biggest old log that could - dragged it up and threw (I was standing on top of small bridge over water) and threw the log in, firing away with camera. Still couldn't get the right shot but some times you have to invent the shot.
But back to 'At it's Best' - I would say thats a perfect one for some Photoshop on just that left plant. That becomes the biggest debate that I think is a non-debate - then it's a photo-manipulation and should be in that category...to that I say no: If I can do it in a darkroom then it's still a photo. To me a true Photo-Manipulation is the creation using elements to alter or create a scene that never existed in that form or never could actually exist. Anyhow - wish you luck and looking forward to seeing the changes but also in my critique, I hope I didn't sound unfavorable towards the photo - it is well done and brings the point across. The technical aspect - everyone sees the scene through different eyes and the distraction is minor in the over-all.
Again - best of luck and enjoy since that is the fun part: tweaking it until you are satisfied.

Truly amazing, I'm guessing you probably did multiple shots at multiple shutter speeds but deciding on the long exposure was a brilliant idea.
I adore this photo, and my only negative suggestions would be the plant in the lower left corner. It moved a bit during the exposure, and to me at least the lighting on it looks a little off.
fav'd
