Probably best not to answer that.Still trying to get a closer likeness. The thing is that even if I get it looking like Stephen Merchant it won't necessarily look like Wheatley, and I really want to nail the feeling of the character while keeping the look of the actor, as t'were. Man.
This is closer, though. Will probably move it to scraps later.

I love it~ A lot of my friends find me weird because I don't tend to go for the usual toned guys (I wouldn't say NO to one, I just...yeah) I prefer people with more expression and even when they're nervous ot twitchy I just find it adorable xD Tall, lanky with a nice voice will do me just fine c:

Why do people make Wheatley look like Stephan Merchant?

I do it because it's fun, and a challenge- he's a hard person to draw properly. Robot-Wheatley is awesome, but I'd guess that (like me) people draw human versions of him looking like his voice actor, 'cause Smerch has a very expressive, Wheatley-ish face and it's easy to identify him with that voice.

See, now I'm just thinking of Wheatley doing a terrible Australian accent because he thinks it's beyond Her range of hearing, and I'm cracking up.

Well, actually, he is in the context of what I find attractive, which isn't so much actual physical attributes as mannerisms, behaviors, attitudes, all those little things that make people people and not catatonic inexpressive bodies. And I like Wheatley's.

I'm right with you there. I love twitchy anxious nitwits, especially when they try so hard to be the Big Damn Hero. Even if they fail. The voice and the animation in-game just make the character, even though it's just a ball with an eye in it (no wonder, the lead character animator was a freaking Muppeteer, no less.)
And it's great fun to match the character up with the way Stephen Merchant looks. He has an amazingly expressive face, and it just works for Wheatley too.
I can't speak for Chell, though. The quote is kind of from a story I'm writing, and Chell finds it an... awkward question to field. Wheatley's a robot- he doesn't exactly have a firm grasp of human aesthetics.

For me it's not so much the anxiousness as the way that he tries so hard and is enthusiastic about everything; he's so completely open you can't possibly imagine him lying; there's no tricky treacherous layers and masks, he's just very much Wheatley and he's nothing else.

Yeah! And it's fantastically easy to tell when he tries to lie, because he's just so bad at it, it's part of why he's such a thankful change from GLaDOS.
