They usually take a form of half human and half bird in Yamabushi's (mountain hermits) outfit. There has many different types of Tengu. For example, the small and more bird(crow/eagle) liked Tengu is called "Kotengu" or "Karasu-tengu", the more human-liked with long nose one can be called "Ootengu/Daitengu". Tengu live mostly in mountains and sometimes are seen as mountain deities.(From WMA-002-天狗)

Tengu is one of my favorite. I know this creature because of very long nose; just like Pinocchio.
However, most of Tengu that i know nowadays are anthro-birdman (bird head but human body); looks cool as well.
Tengu sometime reminds me of Harpy as well. I am not sure whether both of them are related.

Yes XD They do look similar to Pinocchio, especially around nose.
Actually, they are many types of tengu; one which looked like human (historical persons as disguise and became legend), one with the classic long nose with red face (Ootengu) and one which looks like crow and is bird-sized small (Karasu-tengu).
Umm...there is a deity/mythical creature which looks even more like Harpy. It's called Karyoubinga. She has a head of woman and the body of bird. I'll draw her in this month since I've already sketched her

Beautiful and delicate artwork.

Yes! I'll draw Karasu-tengu in the future too and also Sojobo as well
I know Kurama Temple in Kyoto. My grandfather visited there ten years ago and I think I still have the old photos.
Actually, one of my friends also visited there last year in Autumn.
I think there is a legend about Minamoto no Yoshitsune related to this temple (?) Not so sure. Need to research it.

"Minamoto-no-Yoshitsune" is involved. I did not know. There must have been a hexagonal star indeed.
So I was wondering whether "Abe-no-Seimei" is also involved. I also went a couple of times.
The scenery is also beautiful. You ought to come someday.Your grandpa also came ...

Always found the tengu masks quite scary, I think because they remind me of a troll from a book I was read as a child. (I'll have to go and look for it now to show you... oh god... XD Hello childhood trauma! XD)
Even just the thumbnail is more than enough for me... *leaves and runs away*
Lovely artwork again, you always make such beautiful pieces.

Thank you 😉
It's an old art from 2017 but I've just corrected my ugly Kanji letters and also used new camera to take a new photo today. Hope it looks better now XD

Hahhaa!!! You should try because I really want to see.
Maybe a VK artist as tengu!!! That would look AWESOME!!! Since your VK style drawing is so COOL!!!
Which VK band is your fav? Mine are D'EspairsRay (disbanded), the Gazette and Alice Nine.

I already have something in mind, but I don't think that would come out as good as yours
I loved Kagrra, it's a pity they disbanded... I also love Kaya and Schwarz Stein

Ohhh!!! Then I'll look forward toyour Tengu artwork!!! (>v<)b
I know them. They like to wear kimono sometime which reminds me so much of the current band, Wagakki band but their music isn't similar XD
Yeah! Many awesome VK bands are disbanded. One fav band, D'EspairsRay is also one of them. But I'm glad that Alice Nine survived (although changed their name to A9) and the Gazette becomes so famous. XD (Back then it wasn't that well-known.)

Now there are plenty of bands that use kimono in the stage, but any of them sound similar, how bad I forgot to mention that I also like to listen to Tsukasa, D'espairsRay's drummer. He's doing some enka music, which I love!
If you haven't checked it yet, I recommend it

Hahaha! How about Yoshida Brothers. They aren't VK bands but their Shamisen playing is top class XD
Yup! I've known it! XD Actually, I'm still stalking the brand members on Twitter after disbanding. Seems all of them doing well. Hizumi has his own company/boutique "UMBRELLA" and enjoys taking photos + doing digital designs (Ordered his designed T-Shirt twice. They look quite cool after all. The only problem is the t-shirt's shoulder is a bit small. Guess it's standard size in Japan.). Tsukasa and Zero joined "the Micro Head 4N" and Tsukasa as the first VK enka singer XD. And Karyo in Angelo but I don't see him often comparing to the other three.

I'm so glad that you like this pic, although... the truth is I screwed up quite a lot during painting it (T.T) First, I chose the wrong colors for the outfit. And second, while I was writing the kanji, someone called me and the ring tone I used, made me lose concentration, so the last word looks messed up.
I think I will collect these youkai artworks and makes into postcard/bookmark around the end of 2017 and send to my friend as mini new year gift. That's cool idea!

Hahaha! The character I wrote, means "Karasu-tengu". Nothing much! I'm used to learn old Latin too. It's a wonderful language and can be very helpful like for reading the carved letters in historical places or in churches.
Thank you again for the compliment!!!
