Description Nurse Chapel scanning the TNG officer to make sure he's really human! This is at the recent Creation Las Vegas Star Trek con August 2011.

I'm wearing a Nurse Chapel outfit (from the original William Ware Theiss tri-cut pattern) and blond wig. Uniform was built by ME by hand because my sewing machine broke down in the middle of building. Took me 3 days to complete. The hems are crappy but hey you should see McCoy's Sickbay smock hem in the original show!

Jim's costume (from TNG) is his own.

Thanks!
Yes, unfortunately I had to sit there with a needle and thread and sew this thing. My sewing machine broke down right in the beginning on the tri-cut seams. Shame, because it was a nice machine and I have no idea where or when I can have it repaired. Maybe somewhere in the garment district (in LA).

You look great! The hem isn't that bad (: That sort of hem isn't simple.
I wanted to go so badly as the Romulan Commander ("The Enterprise Inicident") but alas it didn't happen.
How was it? Is this hotel better than the last one it was held at?

Thank you so much!
I was worried about the hem making the costume even SHORTER because it was short even without the hem, so I had to do the most minimal hem ever. Note to self--add a hem seam allowance even if the instructions specifically state there already IS one. I'll add a few inches more! I also had waited to iron the hem till I got to the hotel (the Rio) and their iron didn't seem to get hot enough, not like mine does.

Ooh the Romulan Commander in the dress would have been really neat! There were lots of TOS costumes there and a guy who looked EXACTLY like (Leonard Nimoy) Spock! (he's known as the "Vegas Spock") could have posed with you but there's always next year!

The Rio was MUCH better than the Hilton imo, much much better. I never attended the "Quark's bar" stuff and the "Star Trek Experience" at the Hilton, I only started attending the Vegas con the year after they took it out. Everyone said the experience was so great but I'm not sure I would have wanted to hang out/eat/drink in a overpriced novelty bar like "Quark's Bar" anyway. I was at the "Star Trek The Tour" when it premiered in Long Beach, California, it' was very similar if not identical to the experience-- and that "Quark's Bar" was so damned overpriced. (That ST tour folded--thanks to the Long beach city hall charging them outlandish storage fees that they couldn't pay and the whole tour went under so basically that was it for them and the rest of the country couldn't see the intact tour. A shame.)

Sorry for the late reply!
But thanks for telling me about all of that.
Yeah, I tend to have a problem with skirt hems too. even when I add extra fabric, they end up so short!

Sounds like it was a lot of fun this year. Really hope I can go next year
