Since this was never a problem in the games and what actually cause Phoenix Wright to lose his ability to be a lawyer had nothing to do with their powers. I say they are just doing this out of spite and their own ego. Through the trio does make a good set of statues though

Uhm, let's say, the opponent's side almost has no chance of using such abilities, so it might be kind of a 'penalty' for making the game a bit unfair... Nah, basically I just wanted a (seemingly) justified reason to get them solidified.

You can still lose even with their help though and well they go into the court well aware that they are using these abilites though.
They do have a lot people that would want this to happen to them probably looked down on their abilites (which why they were allow to use them) then after they lost got mad. Probably hired the person that did this to get their own warped view of 'justice'

It's true that you can lose with their help, but it's also the case that sometimes without their help you can't win either. And people might think that they're just cheating, as it's seen in AA5-5. After all it's mostly based on real world, and supernatural things are not that acceptable to common people.

The things they are very aware are happening and even allow it to continue thus if they lose it their own fault for losing. As it pretty easy to look up their abilites and see that they are real deal after all. Its not like they are hiding it as they are using them in the open for everyone to see. Claiming to be cheated is something they probably try because they were sore losers. The abilites of these three are real and they must have proved it otherwise it would be allow in the courtroom.

For Pearl this might be the case as people could see the appearance becomes different, but for Athena (and Apollo as well), their abilities are just like "look this thing tells me that you're lying because of your voice (or action)". If you really want to put this seriously, I would just say most of the time these are just nonsense as the person could simply deny it, and no other people could tell who's telling the truth. Why they're not stopped? Because the suspects are just too silly, and the prosecutors are usually on the hero(ine)'s side in a way or so. There's no point in arguing at this point as the designer wants the player to win anyway.

With Apollo you might be right on that front as his ability is based around his bracelet that only he can seemingly use.
Athena is a different story though she might have a speical ability but she use it most through technology that can be shown to everyone and proven that it does what she says it does. The Mood Matrix just seem like more advanced version of a lie detector. Probably anyone that properly trained could use one themselves as Athena's special ablity can be learned (not to her degree but still enough)

I think they're the same. They both have special abilities to detect lies, and the bracelet/Widget are used to enhance or visualize the effect. It's just that the bracelet is supernatural and Widget is technological, and this doesn't make any difference. Maybe those could be explained, but I'm just feeling that they're using those things in a somewhat brutal way, forcing the opponent to admit that they're hiding something without any proof. That's why I still don't like how things are going in AA4 and AA5.

You are not convincing me at all you know. My mind won't change at this rate. Apollo you are kind of right and I do admit that however you are not about Athena you have fail to prove otherwise to me. As what she does can be done but others. You do not need speicial abilites to force people to do what you want in court. That done all the time by normal lawyers, in fact that what some lawyers make a living off doing things like that.
You are free to think how you want but do not expect me to do so as well with well enough proof

Yah I know those things can be done in reality, but certainly not in a way of what Athena did. She generates the scene and says 'look this is what you're really thinking about', and the suspects often just get surprised and admit. That's where I find it most unacceptable as there's almost no reasoning or proving at all, yet still no one ever questions it. Blackquill knows the trick but he surely won't go against Athena. So it's just like cheating to me. The producers could have made it more reasonable of course as it's the most practical ability throughout the AA series already, but they didn't.
Btw, I don't think normal people could generate a complete scene with just a few words, especially when the scene contains details that the speaker did not even mention about. It says it's science but it feels supernatural anyway.
Looks like we're not going to convince each other anyway, so how about putting a stop to this? It's taking up more than half of the comments here already.

Another thing is how much of what you see of the girl's ability or even Apollo's is actually what's happening. What if part of it is just gameplay that is not really happening but just there for the player alone. It is the part merely for the player only that makes the ability seem like something more unnatural then it acutally is.
