Good catch! Ninian was turned into a vampire during the late 1800's going into the 1900's and the family is largely British.
(Though vampires in my story have no strict ethnicity -- long story, has to do with no longer being human -- and in real life she'd probably much closer resemble a pale northern Japanese girl thanks to her straight black hair and soft facial features)

Wow! I thought it looked Edwardian, but I never expected I was actually right. To be frank, in real life I dress much like Nini does. I love clothes from that era! Unfortunately, It is nigh impossible in hot weather.

Actually, no! If anyone says anything it is usually very polite, probably because the clothes, while dated, can work in modern times surprisingly well. If it is not an Edwardian or Victorian jacket, I try to wear a suit and tie when I can. I met one of my best friends a few years ago when she said I looked like Light Yagami from Death Note!
I love this backstory you have given Nini! The Industrial Revolution is a fascinating time in history, especially in England, and almost always makes for a good setting.

I've some good reasons for picking the Industrial Revolution as a major set piece for the backstory. It's sort of the beginning of an era where the western world was finally beginning to develop a real conscience (in the modern sense of the sentiment), so it fits as the beginning of Lamia Solniu's redemption. She -- a creature that devoured children -- looked around at the abuse of children in workhouses and wanted to defy it by making a nice place for orphans to grow up. Despite still planning on eating some of them. (Yep, I intend to reference Jonathan Swift somewhere.)
Having been born in that period it also handily explains Ninian's relative comfort with machines, modern weapons and an evolving technological world. She's even much better at that than I am and that's saying something because vampires are typically portrayed as sticks-in-the-mud when it comes to change.
