One of the best characters in the entire game. I just regret that they made him so insane, it was too easy a route to take and undermines his philosophy. Matias Torres had some great lines, and I found his story really exciting. The man was willing to become the enemy of the world just to save it in his eyes. His home country was going to be destroyed--for a second time. His most well known feat before taking the Alicorn was saving almost every life of his crew members before the Aegis was sunk.
The parallels between him and Trigger are present enough to pose some interesting food for thought. (Both people were considered great heroes, and were known for extremely low loss of friendlies under their command.) They were inspirations, reduced to criminals in the eyes of the world while doing some of their best work for the betterment of their respective factions, and both were exceptionally skilled at their jobs. There are only three military commanders who single-handedly changed the Lighthouse war. Trigger, Mr. X, and Matias Torres, two of which came from Erusea (unless you want to say Mihaly should be considered part of the Duchy of Shilage, which I can understand.)
Even though he lost his marbles. . . Matias was willing to make a sacrifice few were. He knew that to save Erusea, he had to become Erusea's enemy. He was willing to become the devil in the eyes of the world just so that he could operate independently and end the Lighthouse war and save his country. The amount of damage done over Erusea, while Ocean Civilian targets remained untouched, made Erusia a great victim to the war. And while I find Ocea on the higher moral ground. . . I can fully understand Matias's actions, and why he does what he does. The man was willing to give what very few were to save the people who were valuable to him. His homeland, which was constantly being battered, and even taken advantage of. Manipulated by shadow governments, the Belkans, and possibly even by Ocea itself. (At least the deep state side of it.)
When I bought AC7, I didn't think I'd enjoy an aircraft game quite so much, but I found the main story, and especially the DLC really deep and enjoyable. I hope the series has a bright future after giving us stories and characters as memorable as this.
The black SACS, and Matias's laugh looks great. My favorite take on the Eurofighter line, with a really well written and entertaining anti-hero. I can see the man doing exactly what this picture depicts if he would have won after the third mission. Thanks for giving me a place to put my thoughts on the character here on Deviantart.

Yeah, he was a boss, in my eyes anyways. Not as threatening as the stoic arsenal bird, but very human and mostly well written.

Sad that we had never had the B, C and M variant of the rafale, when we do have the C,E and J variant of the F-15 and seven flankers (because for example the Rafale can carry bombs ). I hope we'll have a bit more of balance in matter of quantity of hardware in AC8.

Rafale is one of my favorite fighters.
It would be nice if you could choose special weapons freely. Or I think it would be nice to have more than one special weapon on any aircraft.

Well, the system they used in Project Wingman is not bad. Or something like heatseeker, in which you didn't chose one special weapon but a set of weapon for a role, such as multirole in which you'd have some Fox1s, and fox 2s, anti-tank in which you'd have rockets and some LAGMs, and so on.
Or, they could have like the part system, but with the weaponry, with some weapons limited to some category of planes (putting XLAAs on A-10Cs would be weird)

Or at least bring back the Tornado. I mean, they added the F-104. Or they could had the British Tempest and the French-German NGF. Or just bring back the XR-series from ACX : Apalis, Fregata, Cariburn and Forneus. All of them good fighters

i agree . he was criminally underused .
what's worse is that i felt the story of DLC missions was better than the campaign , the missions were better , and the story felt complete after beating Torres . it was as if it was meant to be original content , but was cut from the game because Bamco wanted more money .
