Description
Pastels17 x 11"
2001
This is a self portrait. The cat inside is comfortable alone, disdaining friends' visits. The cat looking in from the world outside, when coming upon another cat, a stranger, is in a panic.

I like your idea of a self portrait. It's a pretty cool interpretation of the concept

wow!!!! It's like a mirror! exept that one cat in the middle-ground is black, as opposed to the one in the foreground that is obviously black und white....

I was just looking at this painting again--gorgeous depiction of that struggle which is in each of us.

Back when I was a child and taking crayon lessons, my art teacher insisted that we colour out every single speck of the white paper (and everything had to be smooth, mind you) because he said even the smallest hole would make our pictures look ugly. Needless to say, I hated those lessons and, when opportunity presented itself, I quit and never looked back. Now, however, I look at your picture and realise - that a pastel drawing *can* have little white holes, and still look awesomely beautiful. I only wish I'd seen pictures like this back then; maybe I wouldn't have been quite as ready to give up.

Thank you. No, it was a light tan paper.

Thank you. As you see, it's actually a self-portrait. But I'm not really schizophrenic, only pathologically shy. Since I don't make self-portraits I have to find other ways to express myself in art. "Same Girl" is also a self-portrait. And of course I'm neither a cat nor a girl.
