Description
Oils on panel16 x 20"
circa 1970's
This is a very early painting in oils. I was just starting to study anatomy from the human skeleton I had purchased.
My brother made violins so I had one of his to use as a reference.
Studying anatomy is essential if one is to know how to draw the portrait and the human figure, but it gets boring after awhile what with the origins and insertions of the muscles according to the bone structure--I had a "flayed figure" to study along with the skeleton. So I'd create fantasy works to keep me interested.

Thank you very much. This is such an early, not very well done thing. Again, thank you for noticing.

I really like the trailing strings of horsehair from the bow. It's a wonderfully realistic detail, but somehow, it just really adds to the surrealism.

I know this is your older piece of work...but I am greatly impressed with the perspective and the detail...just had to say so.

Great looking composition. I love the detailing and stylization. The angle and colors are fantastic. Excellent skeleton and gorgeous violin. Wonderful work.

Thank you. Such an old painting. I just stumbled upon the only photographic record I have of it--a poorly shot photograph and very small.

But I don't remember when I did this. I see my copyright on the humerus bone, but the file is so small I can't read the year.
