I imagine that when Lilo grows up, she's gonna be a totally bad ass, beautiful, quirky heroine kickin' alien butt!

I love this! I've seen a few people draw Lilo grown up, but what about Mertle Edmons, her rival?ย ย I see her leading a motorcycle gang and and wearing a female version of the "Terminator" outfit(her glasses replaced by sunglasses and she gets contacts). I can just imagine her and those same three girls riding down the streets of Kokaua Town causing havoc with "Bad to the Bone" playing in the background.๏ปฟ

Make it happen in the gritty live-action reboot, Disney!ย

I would love to see Disney (so long as they dont botch it up) a move about Lilo and Stitch when she is older. I love the movies from before and the show itself was amazing as well but I would love to see one last film where Lilo is all grown up and how stitch would handle her as an adult verses a child.ย

Don't get me wrong, I am sure Stitch has grasped that humans grow old. I just would love to see his reaction with...for say if Nani is older or is gone. How Lilo would handle the stress of an adult life. Things that Nani had to handle as the only guardian to her baby sister. Plus, it would make the feels so painful to endure but I would also love to see how Stitch would handle the loss of her. She, alongside Nani, are the only friends and family he really has aside from his cousin's across Hawaii. So...I would like to see what exactly happens to him as well. Would he, like his cousin's find where he belongs?

this is a great image of her.ย  even if this isn't a photo, Lilo herself would want a copy for her scrapbook.

The one thing I see wrong with this is her body type: if you watched the movie, you'd see that the women in there did not have this body type, nowhere near it.

The movie is one of my faves. This image isn't cannon so it's subject to my own interpretation of Lilo. If you don't like it you can draw your own interpretation!

If this is supposed to be Lilo, why is she so light? Her skin tone is significantly lighter than it was in the films, cartoon, and promotional art.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Hannah-Alexander In reply to thehappyprince [2012-08-29 17:15:19 +0000 UTC]

Pictures weren't drawn to be studiously accurate. I approach fanart with creative freedom. I did not reference her skin colour to the exact shade, and I do not let trivial aspects of character design hinder my overall vision of a specific piece, hence why her hair is brown rather than black. This is simply my depiction of Disney's character, and made for fun.

I don't think you understood why I asked. I am a minority, and it's pretty hurtful when I see dark-skinned characters "lightened" for the sake of art and creative freedom. What you have effectively done for the sake of said freedom is called whitewashing. Whitewashing is a common act that is seen in media that replaces minority characters with white characters, as white is pretty much considered the "default race." Whitewashing erases these characters' history, culture, and identity. This phenomenon is more common that one would think. A fairly popular example is M. Night Shyamalan's "The Last Airbender." Here are some links that can explain why this is such an issue far better than I can.

Actually what's weird as well is that, after googlig Lilo, so many of the reference images contradict one another, even the official art! Sometimes she's darker than she was in the series, sometimes she's considerably lighter. It's also not very helpful that Disney use a single base colour to depict shades, no shadows, highlights etc. Looking through the pics of her, I'd say I depicted her skin colour pretty well! Maybe it is screen resolution? Or that I've used highlights on her skin? I don't know.

Yes I know what whitewashing is. I was particularly impacted by Nelly Furtado who brought the issue to media attention some years ago after her skin colour was ridiculously whitewashed for a magazine cover. I did gather that you were hinting that I was being racist, which is ridiculous. I'm saddened that you were offended by my choice of palette (in this case, it was actually the after effects I used, mainly the brightness/contrast tool, rather than the actual colours themselves, to achieve the vintage effect I wanted) which was in no way intended to 'whitewash' her character. It's cool that you're passionate about the subject (my boyfriend is half african, half arabian, so I'm exposed to minority racism a lot) but accusing people of whitewashing and being racist without proper grounds isn't a very nice thing to do. I think the whole thing is a big misunderstanding though. Also, it's amazing how much the resolution changes depending on the computer screen. The computer I colour on appears alot darker, then when I transfer the image to my laptop it's way lighter. Bit of a pain really!
