This Sculpture was/is a birthday present for my dear brother who had his birthday on the 26th.I had to send it in the mail, and was very stressed it wouldn't make it there unscathed. However I hear that it actually DID arrive safely (PHEW) and that he thought it was aye-ok!

Super Sculpey, acrylic model paint, small light bulb, watch gears, diodes, electrical wires, much love and stress.

I really enjoy combining made with found objects.. I like that it fills a new object with old memories and baggage. There isn't much baggage in something new.

this is most excellent hanna, right down to the pointy ears, black below the eyes, lumps, bumps, variation in tone in the metal and things!
too many things to say, or think
just looking at this makes me wonder
i would guess it wouldn't be terribly tricky to set the bulb up so it can be lit up with two of the wires and not impossible to make the gears spin (although, tricky as it would mean a far more tedious construction, hollow head and such)
fills my head with thoughts and wonderings this does
where do you get your gears?
i only have a few plastic ones from printers, big chunky ones, nothing so elegant as a little brass piece

I'd love to make some functional electronic type sculpies. Would be very much tedious fun! Satisfying if it worked, I'm sure..
Must get myself some supplies, mustn't I?
The gears are old watch gears... some came from pulling old watches apart, and I've bought some other gear-y type supplies off etsy.com
Also some have been just given to me because people know I'm into that kind of thing.. But I think they've mostly all come from watches...
