Description Just a quick drawing I did of 2 teenage Germans caught up in the conflict which will lead to the downfall of their nation. The one on the right is using Binoculars to observe Soviet movement near the Windmill, that is a Soviet T-38 tank by the way. The Soldat on the right is holding a Mauser Kar98k Bolt Action and the Soldat on the Left is holding a Panzerfaust anti-tank weapon. Something alot of people do not know about German Soldiers fighting the Russians in the east, is that they were welcomed by the Slavic People as their liberators of Communism. Of Course I am not trying to justify Nazism but you need to compare it against the Poverty and greater Genocides of the Soviet Empire to truly apreciate this picture. I hope you enjoy, I do not really draw that much. (that is a soviet flag on the windmill if you can't tell).

I like this one too! I hate it when people blame Germanies soldiers who had no choice in the matter and just happened to be in Germany for every concentration camp Hitler started! Some of the soldiers were TEN when they were started fighting for Germany! How many ten year olds would question about the countries intent in the war when they were offered a gun and a chance to server their country!? Heck most of the people my age (by that I meen 16-18) who are signing up for the war don't care about our intent and we don't even have a draft! Many of the soldiers thought they were on the right side, protecting there home. I'm not saying the Nazis weren't bad, on the contrary I think they were horrible, but people should blame the comon soldier for Hitler's insanity.

Yea, I EXPECTED most people to come to this picture with that concept already set in their brain. However I went into that German speaking chat room on here so i could practice my German. Instead they check my profile and start yelling at me in english about all this shit because I know they are a bunch of Northern German Communist asses and get mad at anything brought up about WW2. As you can see I am no Nazi and never have been. I do this kind of stuff for the veterans. I heard of a speech where a German WW2 vet was talking to a bunch of German WW2 Reenactors here in America (People who dress up in the uniforms and represent history with battles and demonstrations and stuff), and said something to the effect of "I appreciate that the grandsons of our former enemies honor us more than the country that we went through hell for". It very sad that these artsy assholes can try to discrace their own ancestors. If I was German I would be more ashamed of Germany's treatment of veterans than I would the Nazi regime.

One of the things I hate about deviantart is some of the peoples close-mindedness. They may seem open minded because their veiws are really radical but you say one thing against them and your the most idiotic, uneducate, close-minded person to walk the face of the earth! I can't stand people who act like EVERYONE on the loosing side was evil. It's only that way because they lost. My mom and I have arguement a lot. I like to point out how horrible the indians were treat but no one hates the Americans for that (for everything else but not the treatment of the indians who were here FIRST!). I'm half German and pround no matter WHAT anyone says!

In any case if there was any Soviet support for the Nazis, it didn't help them to win the eastern front at all. And Nazi intentions for invading Russia was hardly liberation or had Soviet interests at heart at all.

At the very least one could say in some twisted way the Stalin's regime believed somewhat in the illusion that they were doing something for the ultimate good of their own people, but they were just subhumans and slaves for the Nazis.

The question isnt what the intention of the initial invasion was it was the opinion of the Russian civillians, many of whom joined the German Forces to fight against their communist government. And these people wouldnt be Soviets, they would be Russians, and the Germans in the pictures woldnt be Nazis, theyd be Germans. Thats like calling our brave troops in Iraq, Republicans.

Brave they would be... but it seems that they are just trading one form of oppression with another. That was probably why the RLA turned against the Germans towards the end of the war.

The Second World War is often viewed as this glorious crusade to defend freedom from the forces of fascism, but the truth is much different. As far as I'm concerned, all sides committed heinous war crimes, and the Soviet Union was just as, if not more, oppressive as the Nazi regime. As for how the Werhmacht was originally recieved by the people of the Soviet Union, I think their support was more an act of desperation against Joseph Stalin's cruelty than any kind of agreement with Nazi policies.

something that fights evil does not automatically become good.

You misunderstand the meaning. It has nothing to do with evil or good. In war there are no bad guys or good guys. There are 2 sides and that is all you can say. The only one who can truly determine who is evil and who is not is our glorious Father in Heaven, God. Those two boys do not decide who they fight for, they defend their country regardless of wether it is right or wrong as is Human nature. You cannot say you would not defend your homeland in a time of war. Reavaluate the picture and description more closely.
