Touhou- Imperishable NightCritiques are welcome!
*Edit: All right, now that I have calmed down from my previous scanner rage, I am still considering getting a tablet. Quick question to all you digital artists out there, which tablet do you guys recommend? I like the Bamboo Fun personally.
Hooray Imperishable Night! This is by far my favorite piece for the Touhou game series, as well as my favorite game. Mokou and Keine are my favorite characters from the game but they don't get much of a showing due to their lesser roles.
Again, everything is done with pencil on 11" by 15" watercolor paper. Tried messing with a bit of color and, instead, got this weird hue- saturation thing going on...

Man I dunno, I really like the traditional stuff. As much of a pain as crap scanners and photos are (mine sucks with watercolor or subtle pencil shading) I think it's worth it when you get it right.
Me, I'm working hard to be even mildly competent on digital work, and painting with it is fun but it's so cool to see drawings like thish
Mokotan is definitely my favorite out of these characters!!!

Oh no, I'm not saying that I dislike traditional stuff. Pencil is still my most familiar tool, and I would regret ever giving it up for a tablet. It's just the process of converting it into a digital format that bugs the fuck out of me. I love the subtleties of traditional art, so it pisses me off when technical limitations ruin those subtleties.
On a happier note, thank you for the quick response! As always, your comments are a joy to read, partially because it assures me that I am not alone and other people have similar problems. Hell, I shouldn't be complaining at all! And YES MOKOU-TAN FOREVER.

Mm, understood. I have the same frustrations exactly, since I'm old enough not to have had any photoshoop or tablets when I was younger/studying art in university (Which I've gone back to finish, lol.) My biggest problem there, and it may be partly b/c my tablet is too small but that's not all of it, is I'm a physical um, draw-er and it's really hard to do that on a tablet. Most of the digital stuff I've done was either painting/shading over a sketch, or using sketch as a base to outline or paint.
A lot of that is to with the fact I've been drawing a lot of random things in a sketchbook the paper of which doesn't lend itself well to much more than pencil or pens. So it's easier to use it as digital practice. But I can't get the same composition or energy into something I draw straight from the tablet...
Ah de nada you're welcome. Hah I had just realized that I faved a couple of your arts before, so... add'd
I just spend a long time trying to draw a Mokotaaaan so I'll probably upload a lame sketch sometime soon She's so tomboyish and adorable

Heh, thanks. I think it's the ability to hold up whatever you're drawing and looking at it from a distance that keeps me a traditional sketcher. If I can't physically hold it up and contemplate the composition or color as a whole, the drawing feels off , even though I haven't really done anything with paint or color of any sort.
But yeaaah, MOKOU! DO IT. Delicious pants wearing pyromaniac!
