Description
Touhou- Imperishable NightCritiques are welcome!
*Edit: All right, now that I have calmed down from my previous scanner rage, I am still considering getting a tablet. Quick question to all you digital artists out there, which tablet do you guys recommend? I like the Bamboo Fun personally.
Hooray Imperishable Night! This is by far my favorite piece for the Touhou game series, as well as my favorite game. Mokou and Keine are my favorite characters from the game but they don't get much of a showing due to their lesser roles.
Again, everything is done with pencil on 11" by 15" watercolor paper. Tried messing with a bit of color and, instead, got this weird hue- saturation thing going on...

Is it okay if I use this? I used it here: [link]

WOAH, that is hella cool! It is totally fine by me, hell you made it even better! One thing though can I get a copy of that piano music folder? Pretty please?

As far as music folder, all I have is the sheet music which you can download here: [link]
It's a beastly 51 pages though and I have no idea if I'll ever be able to fully play it, but it's definitely worth a try.
You can listen to part of the sheet music here: [link]

That is quite epic. Hats off to you, all this detail looks like it took forever. Kaguya's hair adds delicious contrast. But what is it with Reisen and guns? I've seen it before but I'm not sure I quite get it. It looks awesome though.
MOKOTAN so badass! *kidnaps*

Well, first off, thank you for the comment and fave!
Second, I think that Reisen is commonly associated with guns because she used to be a soldier while she was still on the moon. The moon empire had very advanced technology so it stands to reason that she would have some familiarity with modern weaponry. And I guess fandom just kinda went from there... But, yes, it took some time and a lot of dedication to finish. Thank you!
Haha, oh Moukou, you sexy pants-wearing beast you, look how many fangirls you have snared.

You're welcome! Oh, is that how it was? I think I remember seeing some other fanworks or videos of the bunny armies. Or something. That certainly makes sense.
Mokou is stealing precious things just as successfully as Marisa is, I would argue.

This looks really nice, really digging all the details.
Drawing stuff the traditional way has it's own charm, but doing it digitally with a tablet really has it's benefits too. As for the tablet, I've used the Wacom Intuos 4 one I bought about a year ago, and have been improving very much since then thanks to it. So if you want a good tablet, I suggest that one. It's good, it works and it's price is pretty reasonable.

Sweet, thanks for the recommendation! Do you have a specific drawing program that you'd recommend as well?

Well, I've always used Photoshop CS4 that I got the not-so-legal way. I got used to it first, and haven't really used any other programs since. Guess you could get a bunch of different programs and try out which one suits you the best.

Haha, no, nothing special. I was just referring to myself since most of my stuff is just fanart of obscure anime and games. But it's nice to have adventurous people, but I'm just curious as to how you found my account. Love the mermaid's hair by the way!

I'm always looking forward to drooling at your next art piece. Because my brain breaks every time. Especially this time.
Also, the Bamboo Pen and Touch is fun, it's what I use. Kinda small, but I'm used to small tablets and the dual touch functions are useful for rotating and stuff.

Thanks for the advice and the comment! Hopefully my PCB piece will break your brain as well!
Also, what would you recommend as a starter paint program? CS4, Illustrator, what? Preferably something a newbie to digital art could easily learn to use.

This is awesome on many levels. Nice work~
I actually think this looks a lot better than it would if you did it on a computer, unless you got really good with textures and brushes o^o

Thank you, thank you! But this was the result after about an hour of just attempting to fix the contrast and lighting so that the lines were clearer. I am actually kind of afraid of using digital because of the smoother lines and coloring, but we'll see... Since you use digital, do you feel it is similar to traditional?

Nazerine In reply to happibitch [2010-06-26 23:06:23 +0000 UTC]
Mmm, yeah, that's a bit much just for the settings ˚ˆ˚
It's...nothing at all like traditional, and I really don't like it as much. Admittedly, that's partially because I'm pretty bad with Photoshop (I mostly use it out of convenience). Just getting the lines to look nice--something which can be taken for granted when using a pencil or pen--seems nigh-on impossible...
That said, some people (EG, *Doyora and ~THE-LM7 ) seem to have found ways of getting stuff to look good without spending much time on it, but...I don't know how they do it, ahaha.
Anyway, it's probably worth trying, but you may well find that it takes a very long time to actually do anything. I don't know how much that bothers you o^o

happibitch In reply to Nazerine [2010-06-26 23:36:11 +0000 UTC]
Hmmmm, maybe I should stay with traditional then, at least for the lineart sections. I like to draw quick lines without having to doctor them too much. My main reason for wanting a tablet is actually so I can learn to paint and color my works without messing them up permanently. But then I get intimidated by all the settings and layers and brushes and what-not that I prefer the simplicity of traditional. Hmmm.... Agh.
But thank you for replying anyways! Always good to learn!

Nazerine In reply to happibitch [2010-06-27 03:13:13 +0000 UTC]
Yes; traditional lineart and computer coloring is probably a good idea--though, I always find it a little hard to get the lines to work with the computer colors without tracing them in Photoshop or Inkscape or whatever, but I imagine some quick fiddling with contrast and whatnot could fix that...I never really bothered to try, ahaha.
You're welcome! And talk to some other people, as well; get a range of opinions c:

Ahaha, I was going over my list of artists to invite, and realized that none of them did full grayscale pictures...and then I remembered this picture and wondered why I hadn't put it on the list in the first place~
Yes! Keep going!
