Description
I was rushed so I couldn't get any good details on it and it ended up looking very bad (in my opinion, at least). You're welcome to give critique because I plan on doing another piece using the same stock photo-- but I'll take my timeRelated content

Definitely redo this or finish it from this one. I don't think it would look that bad if you finished it.
You might consider using liquid masking fluid. Lay an underpainting of your lightest highlight color on the blossom, fill the large area with a flat wash. Using liquid masking fluid, draw in the highlights. Work around them going over the masking fluid for a second layer. Then tip the petals on a third pass with a darker wash. So you have basically three values going, which ought to be enough to establish dimensionality -- it would also let you shape the flower as a whole by doing some modeling of the whole in how you lay the initial wash and then use darker shadowing washes in the darker areas so you're really doing the details as a decorative process instead of stopping to concentrate on each petal.
In the first wash shape the blossom as if it was so blurry you wouldn't see individual petals. Then add the highlights with masking fluid when that dries, wash over that again in general with middle tones cooler in the shadowed portions, then when that dries with a good pointed round tip each petal with its own small stroke.
I hope that idea helps!

thanks! yeah, I only had a very basic idea about how I would go about painting the petals and needed some clarification. I hope I can get to painting this over winter break

Oh I hope so too, because that's going to be so beautiful.
