I hate Monika mostly because she is... Ugly (I don't know why but in my opinion she looks like if she was retarded*). The only one who is uglier is Natsuki (too big head, too small body) [and I don't really like tsundere characters].
I don't find her as a great character, but I'm impressed by the all of work that've been put in her script. (What doesn't mean I like her, "Your Reality" drives me crazy). I don't like the way she is, just like I don't like Elsa from Frozen - I have no reason but I just can't look at her.
*it's only my opinion, I don't think people who like Monika are stupid or anything. I just think Sayori is much better
