the only pokemon trainer I'll actually refer to by their anime name
well that's not really a big deal actually, given red and ash aren't the same person, and almost every other anime counterpart has the same name as their ingame one..? huh.
Was working on something for ages over like the past month, and then I just gave up and did this instead l o l . . . . . . . .

Gotta give credit where it's due: a b c , I know reference drawing is common but I can't help but feel lazy lmao.
Drawn in oekaki, and there's a very funny story to go with that, actually. By funny I mean painful. You can read it and see some progress shots here .
Obviously my mission is to exploit free programs into being as much like SAI as possible.
Crits are always great, but don't worry if you don't have any/believe in lost causes. It's probably pretty clear I didn't check how the shading should actually look. My meticulous copying of a photo was enough work as it is.
I like to think that what I did to his hair is pretty cool. Like, the roots. Do you like how I darkened them, his hair is totally that colour all the asians use to dye their hair, I just had to.
I suppose that means every anime character with non-black hair has dyed their hair. Vital industry, folks.

man ok true story when you said gary oak i thought of this picture and how i hadn't commented on this but omg i had so much to say that i've probably forgotten but i think most of it had to do with how fitting a model gary oak would have been for abercrombie and fitch or hollister and how would never had occurred to me had you not posted this. the shading is fantastic too *u* i didn't check the progress shots but i'm guessing you made the transition to shi while i wasn't looking and your watercolors and lighting look gr8 [or maybe you did it recently and i just didn't voluntarily notice [[either way it's awesome WELCOME TO DA FUTUR

Alrighty well first off, this picture inspired a night of Gary. Ana was like "HAPPYDESU CAN DRAW, SHE'S AMAZING" and I was like "whatwhatwhat, of course she can draw" and then "I KNOW SHE CAN BUT THIS PICTURE. . . " (and later we posted pics of Gary on tumblr, made fun of his voice, etc.)
So I came to my inbox and here was this rather dashing gentleman. I mean, yeah you always have been able to draw well but the fact that you attempted this makes you godly, or at least on a WHOLE NEW LEVEL. Seriously, it looks gooood, but it also looks like it was so hard to do ;A; YOU ARE GREAT HAPPYDESU, GREAT AND BRAVE. Oh yeah and the shading is super good, how do you do it all ;A;

I think I'm possibly getting more entertainment out of your title and that theory about anime hair dying than this pic but it's still pretty great. I think the only problem is that there's all this humorous stuff going on in the artist's comments and title and then it's this intense picture and I tend to connect all of that and it's really just making me laugh, like, a lot?
That's a pretty great looking ear, by the way. I keep looking at it and being very impressed. The nose too.
