Description
I took yesterdays microphone experiment further. I used my previous "Second Engine" (a compositional generator) and adapted it so the size of the objects is controlled by the volume of input from the microphone. The application sets up a grid on the screen that varies everytime, objects are placed on the grid moving sequentially through rows, when the bottom row is reached it continues to the top of the next column, when the last column and row are reached it goes back to the beginning of the composition. So you end up building a composition from Top-Left to bottom-right and back again. These sound generatives were composed using sounds from another one of my interactive projects titled "Social Swarms" (use it at [link] ), with "Social Swarms" sounds range depending on the size of the object created, and speed with which it hits other objects, so it was good for a generating compositions because it has a scale of differences between its high-point and low-point. Also, it creates nice transitions because the sound volume decreases as the objects inertia decreases.
if you would like to see a 1 minute video of me composing a sound generative go here: [link] (3mb quicktime)
If you like these, check out the lower portion of my gallery for a bunch of generatives!
