Wade Durance grew up with his abusive father as part of the Durance crime family. To rebel against his father in the only way he knew how he joined the army as soon as he could (they were 'the enemy' according to his father) and showed a incredible skill for guns, knives and other weapons. He had a successful careers for a number of years but eventually was honorably discharged when he beat a fellow officer to death after the officer killed a innocent child on purpose. Wade become a successful gun for hire but was eventually kidnapped by the Weapon X-change programme, after his own father, sold him out. The programme experimented on him constantly for several months, attempting to enhance his body and break his mind. He was pumped full of an experiment serum known as Venom-X which did exactly that. He became superhumanly strong, fast and healed from almost any wound. It also twisted his body, and broke his sanity. He escaped, swearing vengeance...on anyone he though needed it.

Wade remembers very little of his prior life. He's not even sure of his own name. Often refering to himself as Dead-Bane, Tom Reynolds or Ryan Hardy.

He also refers to his sometime foe, sometime ally, Dark Web as either Spider-Bat or Man-Man. No one is entirely sure why.
