Mabali doesn't try to talk too much, it's just she's missing part of her tongue so if she doesn't focus and speak slowly her words would come out slurred. Often messing up on the "th, t, s, l, c, d, h, n" and probably others as well (if you say a word and your tongue touches the top of your mouth then it would be a word she'd struggle with if she didn't speak slowly). She at this point sees little point in talking too much. Mabali lost part of her tongue as a young teen, she her sister and younger brothers were by the water when her "intended" (the male her father had wanted her to mate with) come up and began bullying her younger siblings. Nearly killing/injuring young Amato just because he was different. They fought and rolled around near the water. The male bite down on Mabali's tongue and wouldn't let go even when a Crocodile came out of the water and grabbed him. The croc dragged the two back out into the water where others were waiting but Mabali's father was able to yank her back before getting too far but her tongue gave out.

After Jelani beat back a few that tried to get to her and the other, he turned his furry onto Amato and their other brother Akin. Jemani had intended to kill the pair, but Mabali stopped him, and refused to listen or submit. At the moment he was about to strike her their mother Kesia came between turning into a fight between the two. Grandmother came in next and took the kids back home. After the fight was over and they returned home, Kesia moved her children farther from the pride's dens. It was now Apparent that their father has disowned Kesia and the children they sired together, they were still part of the pride, but Kesia would be forbidden from taking another mate and if the young boys were ever left alone and came across Jelani, he would kill them. Only then would he bring Kesia and his daughters back into the family.

Time goes by and Mabali is a little over a year, still technically a teen but if her intended had been alive she would have started preparations for their marriage. She was out practicing hunting with Adamma and the boys were watching her. They were still a little too young to begin training but Amato would have been the only one not to be able to learn being that he was special. What Mabali and the boys didn't know was that their sister Adamma had become part of a "Rogue" group that intended to take over the pride. They didn't know that she had planned to have them all killed during the takeover. When Akin noticed that their mother was running toward them, Adamma signaled for the few males that had been tasked with killing them to come. They tried to get the boys first, but Kesia was able to intervene but already tried from fighting before getting there she was struck down. Confused but realizing the danger she attacked the male that killed her mother. Struggling she was able to defeat the male before that main leader of the "rogues" came into the area. He informed the group to either submit or die. Growling Mabali submitted, she knew her father was dead so there was not point, she had brothers to protect.
