Mstari and his littermate/brother, Foleni, were born to a small clan/pride of wandering tigers, one of the few cubs born to the small group. Mstari’s mother, Aisha, was a wonderful Earth Magic user who used her gifts to help heal others and grow herbs. His father, Khairi, was a Magicless Hunter/Fisher Tiger, dreaming of having cubs with the magic powers of fire he always wished to have but never came to be for him. When Mstari and Foleni were born they were able to discover early that Foleni had his mother's gifts but sadly, for Khairi that is, Mstari hadn’t shown any form of magic.

The pair grew with the few other cubs in the group. They would often claim and swim under the safe watchful eyes of the babysitters and mothers, in the rivers close to home. One day the group of cubs wandered away promising to stay away from the rivers while they explored. We all know children often have a hard time keeping such promises and the group found a large river with trees stretching across to each other. One of the cubs thought it be fun to cross the tree branches and convinced everyone to join.

While up in the trees playing and crossing back and forth a group of monkeys (idk what kind) came around and started harassing them, corralling the cubs above the river in the treetops. They started shaking the tree limbs telling the cubs to hang on if they could but after some time they all fell, even some of the monkeys as well. Everyone started panicking when one of the animals that hadn’t been knocked into the water started screaming to swim away that alligators were coming. Foleni told Mstari to close his eyes and just keep swimming, not to panic that he was going to be right behind him.

Mstari did what his brother said and mumbled to himself, “Just keep swimming.” almost like a little song. He could hear the sounds around him but he just kept swimming. He felt a pain in his tail and shrieked the saying, starting to panic and trying to swim faster. His feet touched the soft muddy ground and he hopped as fast as he could out of the water dragging whatever was on his tail.

Opening his eyes he saw he was the first one to the river bank and that the pain he felt in his tail was another cub who had latched onto it and hadn’t let go yet. He looked around and saw a monkey holding onto that cub as well as the monkey holding another couple of cubs. A few others were coming up to the bank but not everyone. His brother was nowhere to be seen. Mstari hadn’t even seen the alligators but they must have left he thought, all that was in the river were ripples of discolored water and a few animals that had just come off the bank.

When they were discovered by the clan, no one could explain how so many survivors were able to outswim the water predators but chalked it up to luck on the survivor’s part. The clan, especially the parents, mourned the loss of the cubs. Mstari’s mother suffered greatly from depression for many months even when Mstari became a teen and she learned he was with a new litter of cubs. She and in turn, Mstari were happy for a time but tragedy would hit once more at the death of Khairi, he was out fishing swimming under the water to chase a rather large fish. He ended up getting stuck between branches under the water and drowning. By the time the others noticed he hadn’t surfaced it was too late.

Aisha was devastated at the news, completely inconsolable. It was left to Mstari to take over the responsibility of taking care of the family during the burial. Mstari witnessed the clan members bring his father’s body to the bank and discovered the body had already started to bloat with excess water. Mstari had kept it a secret cause he didn’t want to disappoint his father but that day they lost his brother he learned that he had water magic. He at the time just didn’t want to upset his father, cause his father had wanted a fire user to come from his bloodline.

Mstari used Dehydration to take the excess water from his father’s body before his mother was to see the body. During the burial event, he told his mother of his magic, While upset with losing her husband she was happy to learn her son had gotten his magic.

Mstari’s younger siblings, Maji and Kiama, were born later that year. At that point, Mstari became a hunter like his father and used his magic to help hunt. He became a good hunter. As he watched his small family grow and heal, Mstari thought it was time for him to leave, to explore, to learn about new and old things, like he and his brother talked about as cubs. He spoke to his mother, said his goodbyes, and left. He came across Msituni and settled in his late teens. He kept to himself mostly but after coming of age (officially) he tried more to make friends and be a productive member of the pride.
