the little naga looks like a little kid after they see/smell fresh goodies and know that they can't get them without risking discovery.

What did you find racist about it?Β

Well, it points out the Middle-Eastern origins of nagas. But I still like it, nonetheless.

Actually naga is Β the Sanskrit word for snake, and it is used in Hindi to refer to snakes as well. In fact in hinduism and buddhism, both Indian religions, the creature naga refers to snake deities who are often portrayed as half cobra, half human. So the origins are Indian actually, which the drawing shows. I personally don't believe there is anything wrong in pointing out the origins of a creature, or mythos, speaking as an Indian,in fact it makes it more authentic. However, it is interesting to hear other points of views

Also, I love how these tell a story. I mean, with the first one (at least what I picture as the first one) of her getting ready for a party, then the second is of her dancing with someone she met at a party, and then this one is of her with a kid she presumably had with the guy.

*raises hand timidly* Is the henna pattern on the mother naga hand-drawn? Or is it a pattern you found? It looks stunning, and if you hand drew that, holy cow, I tip my hat to you.

I'd still tip my hat regardless, because this is all kinds of adorable. <3

Yes, you with your hand raised.

The henna patterns are all hand drawn, they're pretty fun to do once you sort of get the basic idea of it. Designing Indian and henna patterns was one of my first jobs on my first project in school so it's a very familiar thing to do. c:

Oh wow, that's incredible!! Now I'm getting the hankering to practice drawing henna. Do you know of any good references sites for those kind of photos?

HarpyMarx In reply to neofeliss [2012-08-27 02:51:47 +0000 UTC]

Just googling around is what I did, also my school had on hand a folder of henna stuff. Also I'd recommend checking out bollywood music videos! Not only are they catchy, but they often show off really gorgeous Indian clothing patterns and colors. Kangne Re and Minnate Kare from Paheli in particular.

Probably, there's still a lot of fun aspects of them and clothing design choices and whatnot that would be fun to explore.

Do it do it do it do it do it do it you will not regret this decision. Especially after researching traditional Indian clothing if you go that route because damn the colors and designs are gorgeous.
