Description
"In the world of The Retcon Universe, you will find even more hoildays. Hoildays aren't just a yearly thing sometimes so let's talk about me and Fowler's trip down to Wales for the Awdry Extravaganza 3 event.
With me busy, watching over others around the gated community in Hometown and working with Fowler on personal projects, I hadn't had much chance to go back to the UK to see my Sudrian friends on Sodor. That was until I had an invitation signed by Mr. Furgus Duncan that he and The Earl was going to partake in the Awdry Extravaganza event and wanted me to come along for the ride. It was quite unexpected to receive such an invitation from them two but might as well take in the opportunity shall I. Since Fowler wasn't going to go to Norway for my July birthday, I offered if he wanted to come to the Wales event instead, he said yes since he wanted to go to the previous 2 but couldn't so this was going to be fun for us two. We get to meet other Thomas fans that were going to the event, going to meet our online friends for the first time and get to travel on a famous narrow gauge railway.
We were both there for the day on July 22nd, spending Friday traveling down and Sunday, we were going to another railway instead so we were only there on Saturday. It was raining all day so we made sure to stay nice and dry by wearing our rainy gear. We started off hanging around outside of Twynn Wharf for the first hour, taking photos and videos of the station and the many engines that were taking passengers up and down the line. We interacted with our friends too, seeing their customs and toys they brought with them (I brought my Bruno and Theo toys, as well as my Harold Mug). By the second hour, we headed inside the station to visit the museum and the exhibition for those 25 minutes, we got to saw a lot about the show, saw some models on display and got to even ask some questions too. We even met Veronica Chambers for a moment too, before we both headed back downstairs to get some fresh air. We stayed around the station, meeting our friends still as we both waited for the main train we were going on... The Pop Special.
There he was, Duncan, visiting from Sodor all painted up in the RAF Blue, much to his annoyance. He wasn't pleased at all about this colour scheme, wanting to be coated back in his yellow paint. He wasn't in a chatty mood that day either. Anyways, we headed inside the carriage - squashed by other passengers and given our goodie bags - where we had our journey up the line to Abergynolwyn. It was pretty peaceful to see the countryside in motion, the ride too was bumpy as we traveled along the line but we didn't mind at all. We then arrived at Abergynolwyn where there was a packed lunch waiting for the both of us. We had a sandwich, some digestive biscuits, some crisps and of course, a bottle of pop. As we were having our lunch, me and Fowler thought of a silly idea together. We walked up towards Duncan where we both cheekily tried to offer him a bottle of pop. It was really funny to do, even if he wasn't enjoying the joke. It was a great laugh for the both of us. After more photos and videos, we headed back to Twynn Wharf in which we both said our goodbyes, got stuff from the gift shop and headed back to the caravan place we were both staying at.
Needless to say, Norway and Wales were the best hoildays I've ever been on."

Number 8 of the Slice of Life stuff and this is the second section of my two hoildays, this one being the trip to Wales. Specifically, the Awdry Extravaganza event. Out of kayfabe, I have been interested in going to at least one of these events. I didn't go the first year because of the fear of COVID, not to mention that it was going to be too far for my dad to travel too and I didn't go the second year because I was already going to Berwick with my family and that was during the heatwave where it was really hot. So I planned to go to the Awdry event this year after missing the first two years. I had been worried about not getting the tickets for this event though because I know how popular it is. The big plan I wanted to do was just three things: The Awdry Exhibition, The Pop Special and the evening talk. I couldn't do the evening talk though because where I was staying was an hour and 10 minutes away and that section would be on from 7pm to 10:30pm, which is not good for my dad as he hated night time driving so I just ordered the livesteam tickets instead.
Another worry was my dad's health issue with his heart but that's something I'm not going to go further with as that's private. But we still made it to the caravan site (which was pretty nice, save for not having any internet service). Traveling down there for real though was strange because me and dad travelled across the cliff of the B-Road, which I didn't expect because I thought it was going to be a quicker way and it wasn't. Traveling back was much easier though. I will quickly mention Sunday, so that day I went to the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railway and had a similar trip up and down the line, it was pretty peaceful too. It was a really great weekend and a perfect end to my two trips I had this year.
Will I return to Norway and Wales again someday, we will just have to wait and see.
Next month's Slice of Life, I don't know what I'll be doing for that because I haven't thought of it yet. I've been busy focusing on Sodorgust and Rail Tales a lot so I'll have to get something figured up soon.
Big thank you to Sonicsis as always for doodling Fowler in this scene and for these slice of life doodles. See you in September for the next slice of life!
