Description
3rd of June, 1984:
3:30 p.m
Percy: "...and then, a large cloud of lead dust erupted from the entrance like a volcano. Shortly after, the whole area crumbled to the ground, showering everyone in lead dust."
Duke: "Wow, Percy. That was very brave of you. How the lead mine closed on your railway is very different to how the Lead Mine on the Mid-Sodor closed."
Percy *smile falls to a frown*: "Yeah, but at least Thomas' Branch Line is still operational, and has a quarry to serve the line. But still, you wouldn't have even known a mine once stood there."
Duke: "Well Percy, I'm just glad that the Ffarquhar Branch Line didn't end up the same fate as the Mid-Sodor Railway. The cave in between those two mines was very different. There have been rumours that the Mid-Sodor closed mainly because of the decrease of traffic, however there was another reason. One of our Mid-Sodor's number 2 engines, Stanley, was turned into a pumping engine for his recklessness, and eventually sold to the Cas-Ny-Hawin Lead Mine. And the cave-in at the mine might shock you, Percy."
Percy: "Please tell me, Duke."
Duke: "Very well then. Here it goes..."
Unbeknownst to them, Sir Handel and Peter Sam had heard everything Duke and Percy had said and listened carefully.
This is a follow up to NicholasTheBlueGWR 's "Surprises for Percy" (aka his rewrite of Put Upon Percy and A (Big) Surprise for Percy), and which Duke is telling Percy "Tales from the Scrap Siding 2: Pumping Engine" which is one of my favourite stories from that series by 22Tesla.
