Description rooms and more rooms and, for some bizarre reason, my scene file increased two-fold.  it still perplexes me because all i have done is add some polygons, and not very hi-triangle count ones.  i thought maybe it could be a construction history thing, but no dice.
i've still have 5 rooms left to do on the bottom part of the secondary hull so i'm really hoping it isn't some sort of file corruption issue.  well, worst comes to worst, i can take the file i have right now, separate out the NURBS and polygon components and see if that solves it.
so i thought i would take a big ol' render tonight after completing the aft storage area (the one with the blue/violet lights), and noticed that i still have two pieces of geometry that are still Maya Materials.  can you tell which ones?

packages used: Autodesk Maya, MentalRay, Adobe Photoshop

Coming along nicely The textures on the nacelles don't seem to match. one has the patterned texture while the one nearer the camera looks a bit flat. also looks like the main hull (big middle cylinder) could also use some tlc. Please don't take this post as negative criticism of your work, as i am just trying to be helpful Looking forward to the next update.

no negative criticism taken.

i noticed exactly the same thing, but here's the reason why they seem to be different: the nearest to camera nacelle side doesn't have a direct light on it...all that is illuminating it is a surrounding sphere ambient lights i've placed in the scene for fill.  since Mental Ray doesn't recognise these light sources for the gloss/roughness/reflection mapping (i've told it not to for these test renders), so there aren't the "tics" that are seen on the farther nacelle (which is being illuminated by a single spotlight i've placed above and on the other side of the camera AND the starboard saucer badge light).

but the edge of the aft shuttle bay and the platform that the RCT is located at the rear of the nacelles, those are the two that are still using Maya textures, and they ARE picking up the ambient lights, making them all glow-y.

realistic lighting is both exciting and a pain!

Reminds me of the Bonaventure Class.  Nice work.

thank you.  this is about half the size of that class and when i was designing it, i didn't even know there WAS a Bonaventure.  kind of disappointed because i thought i was being all unique like a special snowflake and all that.

Calm down...the Bonaventure appeared on a Star Trek Calendar back in 2003-2004.  I have not seen it in FASA, as well any Tech Manuals so it's more Fanical then Canonical.  But it's a sweet ship on the calendar.  Yours however is FASCINATING seeing the two impulse engines and the shorter through hull.  If there is a mesh for it available I would love to model her.

*pant pant*  calming breaths...

i just wanted to be clear that i didn't (and would not) "borrow" any design from someone else.

and the two impulse drives are there because the ship is a nebulae explorer and needs the extra thrust to travel through such area of heavy particle clouds.  which makes it, in normal conditions, one of the fastest sunlight ships of Starfleet.

Trust me, there are numerous differences.  As for the impulse design it falls in sync with the Locknar Class which is a Fast Frigate so it would be a prototypical incorporation, so it all works.
