That is an amazing shot!
One day I want to get down there. I have always had a fascination with Australia and this picture just adds to it.

Thanks you for your kind comments.
I was really lucky just to be there. It was a 10 second exposure, two lightning bolts occurred within this particular shot.

how did you get such a good pic though? did you photoshop the lightning or was there really lightning?

Ms Totally not Crazy
To properly expose this image and get the opera house and the bridge I needed a 10 second exposure (shutter set to 10sec) at ISO 100 and aperture set to f5, I used manual mode.
So regardless of the presents of lightning I could get a good image with the above setting.
The lightning is not photoshoped it's real, I just kept taking pictures. With this in mind you are bound to catch some lightning. I have lots of different imaged during that shoot. I have another in my gallery. [link]

yeah, I know but I thought that the symbol they choose each year is supposed to mean something, something significant, but maybe I'm wrong

Hello Mary,
You are absolutely right. it's one thing to see lightning or a great sky for example... But you need to be at a good location.
Thanks so much for taking the time to view the picture and comment.
Happy New Year

I was standing off Mrs Macquaries Rd, down by the water just before it loops at the end of the point.

Thanks, yes I heard on the news... It's raining here also but not as bad as up the coast.
I was lucky on the day I got this shot, lightning but no rain. I just went into town to get some long exposures, did not expect lightning.
Cheers.

Really the amazing timing was really, just being there at the right time...No Rain
I just kept taking 10sec exposures until I captured an image with lightning. It is really quite simple.
I was there just to do some average long exposures... Did not expect the electrical storm.
Cheers...
