This pencil drawing is a first look at the work I am honored to be doing with the Athas dot org guys and gals. They are converting Darksun to 3.5 (d20 RPG for the uninnitiated) and will be launching it will all new artwork including some from your's truly!This is a character sketch of a halfling from Athas (Darksun). They are known to be cannibals and viscious warriors. They are modeled heavily after African and South American rain forest cannibal and primitive tribes, so what better source material than those? I had a lot of fun doing this piece and look forward to doing even more very soon.
All done in technical pencil with heavy use of erasers.

Very nice! This perfectly encapsulates what I'd expect an Athasian Halfling to look like. All the jewelry and tribal fetishes make great details. This is truly great work!

Thanks brandon-bowling, much appreciated. I'm amazed this piece still gets attention after all these years. Pretty sure I created this on Halloween night 2006 while watching the Crow yet again.

They're technically not cannibals -- they don't eat their own species, but humans and elves are fair game.
Very nice pic. I especially like the feet for some reason.

Nice.-So what's darksun/Athas exactly or do you have a link for that? It'd be appreciated. I like the pose and tattoos. It's cute..in a cannibalistic kindof way.

Darksun is an old pen and paper RPG from around 93-94 (I think?). It was also a small series of novels and they made a couple of really early (dos based) PC games as well. If you search for Darksun on google/any other search engine you can come up with a decent amount of info, but few images sadly. Also, for the current 'skinny' go to athas dot org and check out what they are doing with the new d20 stuff (a la Dungeons & Dragons).
Thanks a bunch for the compliments, and I was actually shooting somewhat for 'cute' if not child-like. That is part of the 'trap' that they set for unsuspecting wilderness travelers. "Oh, look at the cute little pygmy people, their just like children, only grown and...hey, what's with the dart in my neck..." as they pass out and get carried off to the cooking pit.
Yeah, I know it's morbid, but it's also fantasy and fiction.
