A bit of fan-art I did in honor of one of Metallica's most respected songs, "One."
The song tells of a WWII veteran whose arms and legs were horrendously blown off when he was struck by a German artillery bombshell. The blast permenantly destroyed his eyesight, audibility, arms, legs, even his sense of smell. Worst of all, he is somehow still living. Since all of his five senses were rubbed out, all he can do is sit alone in his mind, "wishing for death," hence the lyrics. He suffers from a symptom commonly known as "locked-in-syndrome."
