Description Poked the animation tools in blender for the first time today, fun stuff. : ]

Rendering it took an hour though. A rate at which, if this were a 15 minute animation, would put the rendering time somewhere close to two weeks.

Gonna need to learn to optimize this stuff.

I'm currently learning 3D animation with Autodesk Maya. Basically, render settings are a give-and-take operation. The prettier it looks, the more time it'll take to render each frame. For example, I'm noticing a good bit of graininess toward the center and on either side of the frame; this is corrected by adjusting reflection/shadow/contrast settings prior to the rendering operation, but the cost is time (based on your computer's processing power). The only surefire workaround to this is to procure the beefiest rig you can get your hands on. If you're running Windows, it's fairly easy to build a powerful pro-equivalent desktop machine for around a thousand bucks, if you know where to get your parts. If you're running Mac, be prepared to shell out some dough (although I personally prefer them over Windows for all my creative software).

BTW, I seem to remember you having a graphic novel-type series of paintings posted in your gallery, but I can't find them now. Did you take them down?

Just a heads up; even optimized animations in 3D tend to take a LONG time. Sadly the only true answer to our blight is to have powerful computers. *shrug*

It took so long because your materials are reflective. :'D

That's kind of a long time...
If you have any coding background, you might wanna check out Cinder or Processing .
They're geared a little closer to the abstract, but it wouldn't take too much effort to have something like this cooking in real time.

Looks nice. Mighty hypnotic, too, and the movement of the grey spheres feels like a sort of dance. But yeah, pretty as they are, reflective surfaces tend to kill those render times, sadly.

What kind of boxes have you been studying?

Anyway, it's looking really good. It's like one of those trippy office desk toys or a screensaver you can't look away from

So hypnotic.

Keep up the good work. Your delving into CG things is really quite inspiring.

Glad it is!

Been a lot of fun so far, looking forward to learning more and more as the weeks go on.
